Q: Does the warm white look very yellow? It seems some warm whites are much more yellow than others

They are a nice bright warm white - they are not yellow

Q: have some of these - how can we stop them flashing/chasing?

On top of the plug is either a clear or green lit button each time you press down it will go through the diffrent modes pick the still one when you come to it

Q: can the timer function be turned off?

The time function is automatic. As soon as you plug them in they will turn of in 8 hours. Hope this helps
