Cable Failed
All required tests before, during and after install were up to spec. Worked right away very well, but has since failed and no longer warms at all. Only solution at this point is tearing up tile floor and replacing.

First rate product, first rate manufacturer support
I’m very happy that I chose to heat the floor (including into the shower!) and very, very happy that I chose to do this project with Schluter products. Couple of things to note. Schluter strongly recommends separate cables for bathroom and shower areas. Each cable must be tested several times with a standard multimeter As well as with a “megger”. This ensures that you receive a good cable and that you haven’t damaged it at any point during installation. Meggers are specialized and potentially dangerous tools for testing the insulation of cables among other things. I had to buy one as I was not going to hire an electrician to come out three times to test the wiring. As this was a DIY project, I could afford to buy a number of odd tools and still save money on the project. My project was a DIY bathroom remodel, gutting the room down to studs and floor joists, making it much easier to position the thermostat and required dedicated power supply line. I have not done a major remodel in 30 years but was able to pull this off with a lot of careful planning. Ignore other reviews specifics about what gauge wire was used. You must give serious consideration to your local electric code as well as to the Schluter instructions and customer support recommendations. The cable is installed in conjunction with the Schluter Ditra Heat mat - making it super easy to position (and reposition) the cable but - and this is where careful planning is important- the mat is set in thinset, thinset is layered onto the mat after cable is positioned, that is covered with a thin waterproof Schluter Kerdi membrane, onto which the final layer of thinset is added to set the tile. Lots of layers, lots of build up. Again, careful planning is required. And I still came out about a 16th over my existing threshold and will have to adjust it. Schluter has a number of very good videos though some are older and may have minor inconsistencies to newer ones - speak with customer support or (better yet) Schluter field expert for your area to address specific questions. There are a number of YouTube videos that may have good practical advice but some have very bad short cuts in them as well. Always default to Schluter (and local electric code).
