If you're still running XP, this adapter works!
I still have an old PC running Windows XP. I wanted to add a 2nd monitor via USB. A USB to VGA adapter is needed to do this. I tried two other products before this one. Both claimed to work with Windows XP. Both were dirt cheap and I gave them a try. Neither worked and the reason is you need drivers for this to work on XP. The first product said to download a driver but didnt' say where to get it. The second one had a driver but it didn't work. I finally bought this product. It came with proper drivers. First I loaded the driver and then attached to 2nd monitor via the adapter cable. After rebooting my PC, the 2nd monitor came up and worked. I had to make a couple of tweaks in the video settings. The first was to extend my screen to the new monitor. The second was to flip the order of the monitors which were reversed (Monitor 1 was on the right and Monitor 2 was on the left). I told windows to flip it and then it worked great. This was a great solution that worked for my older system when two other products wouldn't. NOTE: if you're running Window 10, you can probably use almost any product. But if you're still running Windows XP, SP 2, just get this product.

Best USB to VGA that I have ever had
The USB 3.0 to VGA adapter from StarTech is the best that I have had. I am working remotely as a software engineer and depend upon having three displays connected to my computer. I installed the driver (downloaded a fresh copy) and plugged it in. It worked flawlessly WITHOUT needing to reboot. That mad me very happy because I did not want to reboot and then have to restart all the apps that I had running. THEN I observed that my 23 in monitor was now at 1920x1080 resolution when with the previous brand X adapter it would only do 1440x900. Definitely worth a few extra dollars.

Works Flawlessly
I purchased the 3.0 VGA model I am old school and still like the 1920X1200 monitors (not 1920x1080) and this was one of the few that claimed it would work. Installation was a breeze, almost impossible to do it wrong. (You would have to try on purpose) Was up and running in less than 10 mins - no hitches at all I am running Win 10 Home - HP Laptop Already have 1 external monitor (1920X1200) This thing truly does run 1920X1200, I even ran some videos on it They were 1920x1080 videos and played with no issues. (Was not a streaming video, actual file from hard drive) Now running Laptop Standard Screen (17") Original external monitor (1920X1200) and this one (1920X1200) No issues at all - all run fine - no conflicts. Haven't tried it running a projector yet - will follow up once I do. PS Shipping was extremely fast - Ordered Friday, arrived Sunday Will follow up if any issues surface.

A very good item after a bad start with VGAE2 model.
Now this is a much better product than the one I formerly reviewed, the StarTech USB2VGAE2. This new one operates at a proper speed, and was very simple to install. The only issue was at first it would flicker at times an lock up the screen and require a reboot. It's annoying, but something I can live with as I save frequently. The refresh rate is vigorous and is now an actual tool I can use. I have two 24 inch Dell monitors and the center is my Toshiba Satellite laptop screen. All play well together and the results are great. I, of course, have the other one that doesn't work with screens this big so, if anyone wants one for a good price or if the vendor would step up and give a refund, I'm all for it.

Tiny dynamo: Has been flawless for >1 year of rugged use, ...with no end in sight
It's been just over a year since I bought this item through Amazon. I have used it nearly every day since and it continues to perform flawlessly. Because my laptop's built-in video card has the capacity for only one supplemental display, I use the HDMI port to extend my desktop with an extra 1920x1080p hp monitor. Having long ago become spoiled by enjoying a 3-monitor set-up, the day my prior VGA/USB adapter (more than twice the size) failed, I immediately began searching for a replacement. My initial skepticism about the tiny StarTech unit was unwarranted. While it does become and stay slightly warm during use, this little gem (upon/through which I'm composing this review) has endured twice daily unplug/plug and travel cycles (I pack it in a tiny Ziploc pouch) for more than a year and continues to deliver a noiseless, crystal clear signal to this moment. When, one day, this little dynamo finally gives up the ghost, I know where I'll turn for its successor.

Good enough, not worth the $50, but my company paid for it.
I bought this for my work to use 3 monitors. It works pretty seamlessly. No issues and the connection is consistent. The program maintains the settings, even after reboots. I expected to, at least, deal with settings more than once after set up. Nope, not the case. It's been good. Con: Only thing I can really complain about is the video lag when moving windows or watching videos from YouTube on my 3rd monitor. There's a serious refresh issue. But it's not a deal break, because it's my 3rd monitor and usually just my email and notes stay up there.

It is nice having three screens active (with different content) showing at ...
Prior to using, you must down load the drive from Startech's website. Let me warn you in advance, their website is a little busy and it took me a while to find the driver. Once the driver loads, you can plug in the Slim USG VGA adapter. It works perfectly. I use devise to maximize productivity in my home office. I use two 21 inch monitors with my laptop. The other monitor is connect with an HDMI cable. It is nice having three screens active (with different content) showing at the same time. I'm able to seamlessly move applications from one display to the other. Works really well with Windows 10.

Broke after 4 months but otherwise great product
Worked well for about 4 months then it stopped working. I'm in graduate school and I used it about 10-12 hours a day every day and unplugged it once or twice a day. So it got some decent use, but I think we would all agree it should last longer than 4 months.
