Works like magic
I had a handmade wool rug that was sealed in storage with mothballs. When I unwrapped it, it REEKED. I tried every trick in the book (baking soda, vinegar, vodka, Febreze) and nothing worked to get the smell out. The rug stunk up the entire house, despite being professionally cleaned before it was sealed up for storage. I tried these bags of rocks as a last resort. I was amazed. I put a few bags around the rug and waited a couple of days. I didn't notice a difference, but then I picked up one of the bags and it reeked like the rug, but almost more concentrated. I realized the bags were soaking up the smell and were literally saturated. I've been putting them out in the sun every couple of days, and then back to the rug. The smell is fading away quickly now. It's amazing.

Cat lovers need this
I bought these hoping it would help with litter box odor. Since I moved into a tiny apartment half the size of my old house I'm not able to put the two litter boxes in inconspicuous areas. Now I have one in my guest bathroom and one in the living room (☹️). Needles to say, the smell can be... distracting, and embarrassing when I have company. Even though I use clumping litter, there are always little bits that break off and stay in the box when we scoop and it's not long before it starts to smell, and in a tiny area such as my apartment, it's just too much. It was especially noticeable in the bathroom. Ewwww! Since I can't afford to fully replace the litter every couple of days, I gave these a shot instead. After opening the packages (*over a wastebasket and jiggling the mesh bag to dislodge and dispose of the powdered particles) I positioned one bag atop each litter box against the wall. I didn't "charge" them in the sun first as some people did, but I am amazed at difference these little rocks make. The first few days I noticed a sort of...clay-like (?) smell when I would leave the apartment and come back home, but the litter box odor was gone. Either I've gotten used to the clay smell, or it just went away because now, 2 weeks later I don't smell it anymore. Now I can let guests use the restroom and not feel embarrassed about the smell. And I don't smell the litter box first thing when I walk in the door after work. Very much recommend for cat lovers. I ordered a couple more (from another listing, because it was listed at a cheaper price) to use in my linen cabinet because the pressed board shelves are old and have a musty smell underneath the paint that I can't get rid of. I'll update when I know how it works for that. I hope these really last a few years, as they claim. I don't know how or why they work, but they're quite genius. P.S. While I was able to find another listing that was a few dollars cheaper after buying these, I feel the $9 per bag price I paid was worth it for what it does. I don't feel bad about paying that price, but if I can easily save money then I absofreakinlutely will.

Almost perfect, but packaging changed
We previously bought this product a couple years ago to use near our litter box, and the old version came in a burlap-type sack. This was great as it captured almost all the dust that comes off the rocks. With this new style, the dust is fully exposed, so even months later it still makes a mess anytime we move one of the packs. I do feel this product works and isn't just a placebo. If I start to smell odors, I just shake the bag around and the next time I enter the room the odor is less noticeable/not noticeable at all. We use this near the litter box and in one of our bathrooms, and for the price I feel it's a worthwhile purchase.

Great product. Ruined in shipping. 😢
This is a great product. Works as advertised. BUT it needs to be bubbled wrapped. It rattled around so much in the box that when I took off the plastic bag it was in so much fell out. At least a third of the context of each bag was destroyed. This is such an easy fix. Bubble wrap and better protect product during shipping.

Love these!
Love these. I have them in my car, in the garage, and in the basement. Great at absorbing odors without giving off any scent. Just freshen them up in fresh air and sunshine every couple few months and you have better smelling air in your spaces!

Not like Jack's beans at all...
I had high hopes for these, but alas they didn't work. I thought surely if Jack could grow a mystical beanstalk with beans I could get rid of odors with rocks; sounds legit. I tried with all my might to make the magic rocks work. I locked them up in a box with some picture frames that smelled bad (and I told them they couldn't come out for a month!) and got no results. I left them in a small space and wished with all my might that they would remove a little bit of odor - that didn't work either. I tried hanging them in a closet (I left the door ajar thinking that maybe they were afraid of the dark...) but the rocks ignored the mild unpleasant odors from spouse's shoes. These rocks are deceptively stubborn, or.... they're just rocks and perhaps rocks don't eliminate odors. I dunno. What I do know is that I tried these after seeing a library recommend them for removing odors from books. I would not recommend Gonzo Odor Eliminating Rocks to anyone, for any reason. Sorry Gonzo. To be fair, I have the world’s most sensitive nose.

This is a champ at deodorizing cigarette smoke stench from books!
I ordered a couple of texts directly from the author, a chain-smoker who stored the books in the office where he smoked. I needed these texts immediately for a course but the stink made me nauseous. Time was of the essence and liquid products could not be applied to the pages. I would ordinarily just hang the books (draped over a metal clothes hanger) with a shop fan blowing over the pages. Eventually the smell would dissipate enough to use. In this case, I used a large Rubbermaid tub, a small electric room fan, and a couple of metal coat hangers. The hangers hooks went through the lid of the tub, the fan was placed at the bottom of the tub, power cord snaking out under the lid, the pair of mesh bags of deodorizer were suspended under books draped over the hangers. The fan ran at the middle setting to avoid ripping up the pages. Over a four-day weekend, the odor was nearly gone. Volume I was removed and used in class. Volume II was left until needed. Then Volume I was returned to the tub for additional treatment. Friends who are vehement non-smokers (or ex-smokers) could not not detect so much as a trace of the cigarette smoke. Two thumbs-up from this old boy!
