TROPICA - Pink Powder Puff (Calliandra haematocephala) - 10 SeedsWorth knowing: This almost delicate looking tub plant actually is a tough and long-lasting species that grows and flowers well within our latitudes. It has oval pinnate leaves and shining red, spherical flowers of 10 cm in seize shaped like a powder puff or a make-up brush. Flowers appear almost throughout the year, most often, however, during autumn. The Pink Powder Puff can be kept at any size by pruning.Origin: The Pink Powder Puff is indigenous to Tropical and sub-Tropical America.Propagation: Seeds can be started indoors any time throughout the year. Soak the seeds in water at room temperature for a few hours, spread the seeds out onto moist seed starting soil and cover them with a very thin layer of soil. Given temperatures of 20° to 25°C, the first seeds germinate in as little as 10 to 14 days.Place / Light: Choose a bright to full sunny place. If placed outside, the plant should be protected from midday sun and direct sunlight during the height of the summer.Care: Well-drained standard soil is ideal. Water plentifully during summer and supply the plant with tub plant fertilizer every 3 weeks from April to September. Already the young plants should be pruned frequently so that the Pink Powder Puff develops a bushy growth.Winter period: Over-winter the Pink Powder Puff bright and frost-free. Bright rooms and temperatures of 10° to 15°C are ideal. Water less. Every 2 to 3 years, the plant should be thinned out by removing older branches.Bonsai Suitability: Yes
