dumb question but i've never ordered clay before. approximately how big is 8oz of clay? lol can someone give me an idea how big the block is?

It's not a dumb question. lol :) An 8oz block is around 1in tall2in wide, and 5in long. So you get plenty of clay! :)

What is the difference between sculpey iii and just plain old sculpey? i want to use it to make large beads and ornaments.

Hello,The original sculpey just comes in White and Terra Cotta and the III comes in a variety of colors and sizes. The III is also a little stronger clay and has less of a filler. If you are going to be making large beads and ornaments the manufacturer suggested that you put a compressed ball of aluminum foil inside the ball. That way you less clay as well.Thanks

Yes, I'd also use acrylic paints.

I think so. It's very porous though. I put an acrylic media on the finished piece to seal it.
