I will start off this review with details that apply to everyone and should have been better explained in the poorly written instruction sheet:Despite the application chart indicates fitness, this head will not work on all or some Stihl curved shaft trimmers. The product description on Amazon correctly states that it will not fit these trimmers. It does not come with an 8mm RH bushing.Here is a better explanation of the parts and how they fit...In essence, the spinning direction determines the thread of the bushing, the core color, and orientation of the spool. Select the wrong core and the trimmer cable will not dispense.Left Hand (LH) bushings must be inserted into the black core while Right Hand (RH) bushings should be used with the white core.The choice of core also determines which side of the spool faces up. Specifically, the white core with RH bushing is assembled with the spool showing the letter "R". The black core with a LH bushing should be joined with the spool oriented so that the letter "L" is visable. When correctly assembled, the core will extend beyond the spool as shown in the photographs accompanying this review. . The spool sides are mentioned in the instruction sheet but I believe this needs to be clarified with photographs.So, how does it work? The trimmer line goes in easily and loading is simple. It may be reloaded in a minute. When you need more line, just tap the head against the ground to extend the stored trim cable. It works well and and can save considerable time.In summary, I highly recommend the Shindaiwa/Echo Speed-Feed® 400 Trimmer Head with one reservation: Do not trust the application instruction sheet chart. Check the list of included bushings and studs to make sure it will fit your trimmer's mounting method.And here is a bonus tip.... Search for the web for "SpeedFeed® bullet proof" mod using a 3/8" bolt, a fender washer and nylon insert locknut. It will extend the trimmer head life.

This item is great. Takes all the stress out of winding new string and getting back to work. I purchased this off of the suggestion from the YouTube channel Chickanic. She give great advice, tips and tricks. Showed it to my neighbor and they ordered one as well. Stick with the 400 model because of reliability and less stress on the motor and working parts. Lot's of issues with the 450 & 500 models.

After trying two separate kits, both came with incomplete threads on the included "red" 8mm x 1.25mm LH bushing, rendering them useless for my application. It not only didn't thread onto my trimmer, but also didn't thread onto their own "silver" 8mm x 10mm LH mounting stud. I contacted Shindaiwa customer support to see if they would send a fully threaded bushing, but was repeatedly told that it is incompatible with my model trimmer (it is compatible, but not on their "list") and they failed to even acknowledge that there even was a defect. The opposite side of the bushing threaded onto both the trimmer and the mounting stud, so it is clearly not a compatibility issue. I will be returning this a second time and will never buy any Echo or Shindaiwa product again. Horrible customer service and quality control.

This Shindaiwa 78890-30000 Speed-Feed 400 Universal Bump Feed Trimmer Head replaced my Ryobi EXPAND IT. I used the Red Anodized adapter on the threaded shaft that you get down to once you take off the Ryobi head.. NOTE: the thread is left handed..... so remember that after aligning the half slot on the base of the shaft where the along with the other half of a slot which is on the string trimmer part and inserting the locking tool that comes with it ( but in my case I used an allen wrench that was a sufficient size cause I lost the tool) this locks the head then you can turn the old Junky Ryobi Head off by twisting to the right because it is left handed thread... That's right twiest it of and throw that piece of garbage away! you may want to go here to check this youtube clip out.... it will show you how to change the bushing in this Shindaiwa 78890-30000 Speed-Feed 400 Universal Bump Feed Trimmer Head. On mine I used the red bushing... Also I went through that blue trim line that came with it like in 5 seconds I am currently using this line. MaxPower 338814 0.095-Inch Premium Twisted Trimmer Line, 200-Foot Length... Its a good cheap line so I hear and it did already outlast the blue on that came with the shindaiwa universal head... The reason why I cheanged the head in the first place was because the Ryobi was brand new and already it did not want to come apart for the first string change.. So that's why I stated surfing and came across this Schindaiwa universal string feed one... time will tell if I made the right decision but I like it so far ( at least you can services it easily as compared to the Ryobi head) and at least it fits on the Ryobi expand it weed trimmer and replaces it.... I will be back to update to 5 stars if It stands the test of time and is super easy to string up with my chosen string trimmer line.

I can’t believe I spent all those weekends wrapping and re-wrapping the spindle only to watch it undo as I tried to reinstall it. I have a Stihl Kombi system, and I use this for my straight FS KM trimmer. I use the green adapter and the spacer and it went on like a champ. With the spacer, the cutter was still in play and the bump feed worked well. A great value for the money as compared to the Echo product, which is apparently exactly the same. Highly recommend based on the fit, ease of assembly, and the time saving capability this device provides.
