Collectors' Netsuke Hardcover – August 1, 1971

I do not normally review products as I simply cant be bothered, but this book is something I want others that like or think they like and want to collect Netsuke.It does a good job covering chronologically the greatest or most influential carvers (artists in all but name) of each era or school, with a selection of their work and representations of their signatures if available.The text is clear and concise and the pictures mostly all in color.It is a bit dated, being from the 1970's but my copy was the from the 1990's.The only thing its lacks, which I found in other texts on Netsuke, was explanations of the various termsthat are used in the genre and a history of the development of the styles, how they changed and where Netsuke went after they left Japan.Still, a very good book and I highly recommend it.

An excellent resource book with historical information and beautiful pictures. Limited to the most significant carvers, but a good reference for netsuke of quality.

Very good book

Good overview of Netsuke carvers before 1950. Not to much explanation on what the Netsuke represent and how materials were used and valued.
