I've had this device for 2 years now. I live in an area where wind gusts can exceed 65mph. AcuRite does not measure momentary wind gusts, but rather the average wind speed at any given time. I was disappointed to learn that this device cannot measure wind velocity gusts. So, if you're looking for a device to measure individual wind gusts, the AcuRite is not going to work for you. As for maximum wind speed (by average), I'm sure this device can reach high double digits-- as an average. Hope this helps.
