Review: Unbeatable Value - Many years ago, I walked into a Grammy-award-winning studio to record a few tracks with my band. The engineer put me in a vocal booth with a really cool-looking green microphone with a gold mesh windscreen. I couldn't believe how crisp and gutsy my vocals sounded. I assumed I was singing into a very expensive brand-name microphone. But when I asked the engineer, he pulled me aside and said, "I'll tell you a secret." That's when he told me this awesome microphone cost less than $100. I was floored. Of all the fabulously expensive mics this guy had at his disposal, this was the one he picked. And he was right. Fast forward several years later. I finally decided to add the MXL 67G to my own collection. And like before, I'm constantly impressed with how great it sounds. It is "the" microphone for my vocals. Recently, I've also taken a liking to using it for 12-string acoustic guitar. It sounds clear, clean, and bright. It easily wins out over other mics I own costing five or even six times more. Is this the right microphone for everything? Absolutely not. It has a very pleasing presence for vocals, but it's a bit too harsh for sax (as an example). I use an sE Voodoo VR1 ribbon microphone on sax. I still rely on my trusty Audio Technica 4033a for lots of things, like flute, trumpet, and hand percussion. And while the MXL 67G is great for MY vocals, that doesn't mean it will necessarily be the best for yours. But I'll say this. You won't find a better microphone at this price point. I can almost guarantee that. And you'll never regret having this in your arsenal. NOTE: This microphone is VERY sensitive. You will need the MXL 57 Shockmount (sold separately) pretty much all the time. If you purchase the mic, be sure to throw the MXL 57 in your cart, too.
Review: Great Warm Mic for Low Price! - I originally came upon this mic when I first started recording a couple of years ago. I enjoyed the warm tone and authenticity that this mic brought to the recording. I used it for my first live recording gig and it performed well considering my rig was pretty awful at the time. I just purchased this mic because I started to do more studio recordings and I needed an inexpensive Large diaphragm condenser that sounded warm and was a good all around mic. I used the MXL V67G for female vocals, male vocals, acoustic guitar, and aux percussion so far and with each instrument I have been very pleased by the performance and the quality. The proximity to the mic provides good tone close and far away with relatively low noise. The hard plastic shock mount that comes with it is of not much use so I would recommend purchasing the MXL 57 shock mount as well. The construction of the mic seems solid and I have had no issues with it. The mic does seem to have a slight break in period but it is very short and the 'newness' wears off to give you that great mellow tube/warm tone. Before I purchased it, I read some reviews where people had trouble with it out of the box not working. The only thing I can think of is that they didn't put on the phantom power because this mic needs to be powered to work. I look forward to trying this with drum overheads, acoustic pianos and possibly scream vocals. All in all, this is a great all around mic and it will enhance your rig. It is surprisingly cheap for how good it sounds, the response is great, it gives true tone of the instrument and it can be used for many different instruments. You won't be disappointed!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great sound at a great price
*by C***A on September 5, 2012*

just like the sm57 or sm58 this is just another $100 microphone that should be in your studio. It reproduces your sound very well. I will be using it mostly for acoustic guitar and vocals. i tested it last night against pre recorded sounds produced by my monitor speakers and then compared the wave forms from this mic with the originals. also panned them separate and listened to the difference. it was a good learning system for the gain and EQ adjustment, I can make it reproduce what i hear very well. the differences in sound (Visually) once I got it setup with EQ was minimal. It sounded wonderful on my acoustic and also on my 2 different guitar cabinets so long as I kept the volume at home practice level. I am running it thru the Focusrite scarlett 18i6 pre-s into Cubase. I would not recommend it for any type of remotely high SPL recording, or for bass cabinets. it seems to distort at the <150hz range much quicker than higher frequencies, which is common. I'm not saying it doesn't reproduce them well, but if its loud it will distort fast. and it doesn't handle anything loud or punchy. I also note a "ringing" when I'm heavily strumming the guitar from 12-15" away. I'm not sure if this is from my environment, the sensitivity of the mic or both, I never noticed it on my sm57 or 58 in the same position, but I'm going to assume it's my fault. I would like to see it with a shock mount but honestly I don't pickup much sound when I walk from having it on a boom stand on carpet floor using the provided mount. One customer photo shows it with a sponge cover, I didn't get one of those. mine came in a padded cardboard box with a mount and a black zipper case, a mediocre user manual and a buyers guide for the full MXL line. I've only played with it for 1 day, but I'm sure I would buy again.
