Intuitive Probability and Random Processes using MATLAB [Kay, Steven] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Intuitive Probability and Random Processes using MATLAB Review: My first choice as an introductory text on the topic - This is my first choice as an introductory text on probability and random processes for senior undergraduate and graduate students. There is not much to add to what has already been said in previous reviews, but I will try to summarize some of the points I found most relevant. The author is gifted with CLARITY OF EXPOSITION, even of more difficult concepts. The PROGRESS ON THE SUBJECT is slow but firm. This is good news for the beginners and those who would like to see the same thing from different angles (single variable, then, bi-variate, then, multi-variate, one chapter for each and this for the discrete and then for continuous case) on the other hand, if you need to quickly cover the main points of the topic, this book will hold you back a bit. As for the NOTATION, it is somewhat overloaded which makes reading sometimes a bit heavy-going, however there is no doubt that it helps the author to be precise. As for MATLAB, the examples included in the book are helpful, although there are not as many as it may have been expected from the book title. The author provides several interesting examples related to actual engineering problems, not to mention that every chapter ends with a helpful Real World Example. The author provides some helpful material on his webpage. So, if you plan to teach an introductory course on Probability and Random Processes, this book is all you need. And for those who are struggling through such rather hard topics, I am sure this will be one of the most helpful books you will find on the market. Review: The best book ever on Probability - The best book ever on Probability. There are many books on probability theory, but this book is unique among all of them. Its uniqueness lies in its completeness of the theory and its workout examples. It is a graduate level book but even if you are an undergraduate and have a passion for math you can understand it given its clear explanations and examples.

Useful book
The book is shipped in great condition, and its content covers most fundamental probability ideas and concepts. The concepts are stated clearly so it's not difficult to understand. Good for students who have a background knowledge of complex analysis, multivariable calculus, and linear algebra.

Very pedagogical exposition
you will get a solid understanding of each topic/chapter title. Not only engineering but also math students should be trained in the spirit of this book. Each chapter culminates in a real world application which is indeed interesting, and not completely trivial. Few books teach the theory but also bring you to the level where you can apply this theory to problems. However, there is a drawback, in my opinion; since the book is supposed to address grad students some mathematical sophistication could be assumed so as to achieve a more concise presentation. I don't blame the author for extreme clarity of course, but usually you want to get to the interesting parts of any subject at a much higher pace. At some points one could say the book is a bit verbose. Overall, it is almost excellent taking into account its target-group (mostly ece students) and the material it deals with (elementary applied probability).

The book is very good
The book is perfect, very well written and the examples and matlab programs provide to readers an additional toolkit to improve the learning process. Steven Kay has joined mathematical formalism and practical example to write excelent books.

concepts explained clearly
excellent book for senior undergraduate and graduate students. utmost care has been taken by the other to make sure the readers of the text do not confuse some complex concepts.

Probability Textbook
The textbook was new quality, however it did not arrive the first time it was shipped, nor did it return to the sender. After about two weeks the sender shipped a second book. The second shipping took longer than the 6-7 business days that was promised and I needed the book for a class. So although the quality of the book was very good, the delivery was less than pleasing.

Great book
I'm using it as textbook for my master classes and it's great. Super easy to understand, good examples and problems...

An exposition of a difficult subject with the reader on the author’s mind Laced with very useful MATLAB code, but not at the expense of a thorough treatment of the underlying principles Highly recommended
