Burn-in ruins the LG OLED experience within 2 years
I’m posting a review of my LG OLED TV, which I have owned for just under 2 years (since Black Friday 2017), so as to warn people about the real issue of image retention / screen burn-in with LG OLED TVs.Mine is a 55” B7 model but as these issues are only likely to arise after 12-24 months of use, it seems fair to post it on ‘current’ models to warn and inform about the problems that you may get after a relatively short period of time.So – about 18 months after buying the TV, we started to notice some image retention which looks to be the Sky+ HD ‘Pause’ circle in the bottom left hand corner. Since noticing that and looking closer, it is clear that both the ‘Pause’ circle, and the overall ‘Planner’ menu, are both showing as retained images on the screen.LG’s contact centre response is simply that this is not their fault and that it is due to the way that we use the TV. They offered to repair it – initially for £999, then £599, then £399 as their final ‘goodwill’ offer – for a TV that is less than 2 years old. Even if it had happened within their 12 months guarantee, image retention is explicitly excluded from their manufacturer’s guarantee due to their argument that it is down to how users make use of it, and not to inherent issues with the technology.Whilst that response from LG may be defendable due to the Sky+HD box (the main source that we use) being an external source without any screensaver function, what is NOT excusable is the fact that we are also seeing the ‘Netflix’ logo starting to show in the bottom right corner. Netflix is only something that has ever been watched via the built-in app on the TV, and is only watched occasionally, so there isn’t any realistic argument about it being caused as a result of our viewing habits. It is a logo that is only on-screen whilst a choice is being made as to what to watch, and if left without input from the remote, the TV’s inbuilt screensaver comes on quite quickly to protect the screen. The image retention is best seen against red or orange images – so the photos I am uploading are as a result of my casting a solid orange image to the TV from my tablet so that the issue can be demonstrated most clearly. If you are considering the purchase of an LG OLED TV, be aware that image retention can be a REAL issue that could affect your expensive TV within 18-24 months, and that LG will not undertake a repair as they will take a firm position about it being the result of your viewing habits, not of their technology.I am a genuine consumer and paid £1349 for my LG OLED TV in the expectation that it would provide a great viewing experience for several years to come. That only lasted for 18-20 months before the burn-in issues turned this into what is probably my worst-ever buying decision.

No burn in, perfect picture! If you can, buy it!!
Just amazing!First, to set the record strait. The reviewer who had burn in issues doesn’t realise that there are a a huge number of technologies in place on the newer TVs to prevent burn in, additionally might be using there own tv incorrectly, for example, don’t turn them off on the wall, as this prevents them running the clean up routines needed to stop burn in. But whatever the problem with their TV the tech has moved on from when they bought theirs. Now for the main point. The picture quality’s well it’s second to none! It’s just mind boggling how much tv tech has moved forwards since I bought my first gen 4K tv a few years ago. OLED though is the way forwards! Beautiful colours, exceptional detail and blacks so deep you can get lost in them. It’s like looking through a window!4K HDR content is where this tv shines, it’s got a wealth of tech to make the most of any picture, Netflix, Prime or any streaming looks perfect! Game consoles feel like they got a graphics upgrade and are super quick. Xbox one X with its full 4k content is to die for! It just looks stunning when used with the right stuff. That said, it’s party trick is when you play none 4K content. It manages to upscale amazingly! Watching HD content looks better than my old 4K Samsung did when playing 4K! Stunning colours and crisp motion all come together to make this tv just the best thing to look at bar none.Downsides? Well OLED TVs aren’t as bright as the brightest LED TVs from the likes of Samsung. But the range of colours and the far DARK details you get mean more to me than the brightness. If you like to be dazzled by a picture of the sun though, go for a Samsung. It once I got my colours and settings tweaked, I was blown away by this thing!!Sound is fine. I’m have a powerful amp and surround sound speakers though, so it’s never going to compete with that, but I was pleasantly surprised how good it was.Tv interface is excellent. Very clever indeed with its magic wand style remote. Loads of apps are compatible pre installed if that’s your cup or tea, they seem to come colour calibrated for the tv and videos look great through them. It’s a bit of a faff to build, but once it’s actually up and in, it’s a doddle to configure. So overall, super pleased with this TV!!!!!

Great TV. Standard warranty included, not 5 years.
Great TV. Not easy to unbox and lift. Extra care needed and I would suggest 3 people. Stunning picture quality. Software is fast enough. Loads of features. Get a proper AVR to fully appreciate ATMOS and DTX sounds which can go via eARC. I use Denon and works seamlessly. Alexa via remote works great. Go to Hughes or John Lewis as they offer 5 years warranty included for same or similar price. I missed out on that.

Premium quality
Was a bit scared buying such an expensive TV so deliberately chose to buy from richer sounds -made a good decision, everything works perfectly and delivery was efficient

Heavy and awkward to inbox. Needs 2 people
Sometimes the remote thinks it needs to wake up and the cursor appears. There doesn't seem to be a way to dismiss it.Sound was ok for flatscreens, but benefits from a soundbar
