Many times they are both on the steps at the same time, they always run up and down the steps head-to-tail. The steps are very sturdy and setup and take-down takes only seconds.We particularly like the castor wheels as it makes it easy to transfer between our trucks and garage. My wife puts them in the trunk of her car, I put them in the bed of one of our trucks. I LOVE IT! Prior to purchasing this I tried to use a ramp, my beloved driving companion wanted nothing to do with the ramp. It only took a few attempts before she understood how to use the steps. I highly recommend this ramp for anyone with a large dog-child to get in and out of vehicles. The stairs easily fold and unfold and are not very heavy to lift. The rollers on the ramp are a nice addition but not necessary.
