I've washed each pillow shell in my washing machine, and each pillow shell laundered beautifully. I do not know which thread count that I prefer because I have not filled them with down. The hard part is figuring out how much down to stuff inside till you have it right. Can be very messy if you're not careful. I got a pretty large box and duct taped the bottom to seal it and then stood three sides of the top straight up and duct taped them to stay up. That left one side for me to fold down so I could reach down to the bag of feathers and the pillow in the box. Working that way controlled the feather flying mess even more than I expected.
