Samto 3D Drawing Pen (Version 2)The joys of watching a child’s face light up when something new comes along and enters the house. OK, forget the child, my face lit up when this package came. Yay! I could not wait to get started. I tortured myself by opening the package slowly and examining every piece inside carefully. All seemed in good working order.Now for the test trial. I was leery of odor, and I must admit there is a little, but there really was not that much. What odor there was came from the filament that I had already from another pen I tried. Do not do that by the way. This pen accepts ABS or PLA filament and there are tons of colors you can order on Amazon.com.I plugged in the pen, let it heat, and feeding the filament was so easy! It is ready to go that fast, which was good because I had tortured myself long enough. The instructions are easy to follow even for me. Time to create. I had patterns already printed, in anticipation of this pen. I recommend covering you design with wax paper. The filament will stick to paper and when pealed off, paper comes with it. Just a hint.My first creation was a butterfly. Not too awful I guess. My second was this Angel. A little better than the butterfly but still not perfect. LOL I’m no Rembrandt. LOL But this pen did not clog, mild odor of melting filament, and allows the imagination to run wild. This pen moved so easily, the speed control was extremely helpful, loading and unloading was a breeze, and I didn’t burn my fingers!I highly recommend this pen and give the seller five starts! This is a cool 3D pen with an LED indicator. I have been fascinated by 3D printing since I took my first class in how to use a computer program to create an object on a 3D printer. I thought this would give me an advantage when using this pen. It did not. The basics I was able to get down...plug the pen into the adapter and wait for it to reach the desired temperature. (You know it's the right temp by looking at the small LED screen.) Once that was done, you choose which filament you want to work with. You are given 3 in this kit - clear, gold and blue. I choose clear at first because I thought it would hide my mistakes better.It didn't.With that being said, I'm quite sure that once I use it a little bit more, I will be more comfortable with the different settings like speed. I will also be able to plan different designs I want to create. I'm confident that once I put more thought behind it, I will have some fun projects.Disclaimer: I received this item at a discounted price for an honest review of this product. When the pen worked, it was cool. But that means that it was cool for about 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, and careful use, it stopped working. The screen would not change from saying PLA and the filament became stuck in the pen and would not come back out (I think the back-up button also stopped working). We tried everything and nothing got the pen to work! It was very, very upsetting for my son as this was the one thing he was looking forward to on Christmas.

I'm amazed to see all the positive reviews on this product. Perhaps we were unlucky enough to receive a defective Samto 3D pen. Ours was so slow at melting the filament that we just couldn't make anything with it. Very disappointed kid on Christmas day. Also the instructions were in very bad English. I returned it and got a refund. It seems that other brands sell the exact same product. One guess is that it's a cheap product mass produced in China.

I took my time researching the 3D printing pens before making my decision to buy the Samto for my 11 yr old grandson for Christmas. He was so excited he got it he was actually dancing around. Now the sad part, it only worked for 15 minutes. The button you press down on to get the pen to release the hot plastic jammed inward, thus making it useless. The worst part, he had been asking for this since 6/2015 and was so happy to finally get it, than We were both VERY disappointed. Him, because it didn't work after he waited 6 long months to get it for Christimas. Me, because It was the 1st time I ever gave him a dud gift. I'm returning this today, hopefully I'll get my $ back as quickly as they took it.

This pen was amazing (note the word WAS) this pen was awesome in till after 10 months of HARD HARD HARD daily use and usual drops from 5 feet on to a hard floor and then it finally died I was very disapointed however I made some amazing things and I fully recommend this product and I intend on buying another one very soon

I bought this for my 12-year-old for Christmas and he loves it. So far it has provided many hours of entertainment! I bought additional filament in many colors and he has really enjoyed it. We have not had a single problem or issue with the pen. I highly recommend this!

Broke, hard to make work...gift was a total bust. Plastic thin and brittle on items made and there's no practical use for them...leave this tool to the skilled!
