I put it on sitting on a cloth bench and there's no stain on it. **Q: Does it smell ?** A: Yes it smells. It is a horrible product, expensive, smelly and I put several applications on for very little color. Don't buy it. **Q: How long do you leave it on before shower?** A: You don't shower right after this one! It's so easy, you just put it on like lotion after you bathe and exfoliate. I just use a big shower puff. I dry off and about 10 min later I put Tan Physics on just like body lotion. I wait about15 minutes, let it sink in then dress or go to bed. The next morning I have the most natural looking tan I ever had! No bad smell and makes my skin so soft and conditioned. Reapply whenever you need to. Doesn't flake off when you reapply, it just fades evenly after a few baths or showers. **Q: is tan physics okay to aplly to face?** A: Yes I did.
