## Description

A strong blend of tippy orthodox tea. We select fine Kenyan tea for its refreshing, bright flavour, and blend it with second flush Assam tea from the best gardens in Brahmaputra Valley. The whole, rolled leaves are flecked with gold tips - the flavourful young leaf buds which mark the very best teas.

Review: I've tried several, don't bother with any others - As the title sugests, I've tried a few scottish teas. If you don't read the rest of this, know that this tea is fantastic. Anyways, The Harney & Sons was the first scottish tea that I tried, it was tasty! But... I used the whole container, and needed more, so I went with Brodies next, because of great reviews, and because i wanted to try different takes on the blends. After getting it, there was a stark difference between the taste. In musical terms, H&Ss would be heavy low-mids all day, nothing crazy poking out. Brodies would be the opposite, to the point I'm surprised they call it a scottish tea. All high-mids and treble, flowery. H&Ss information was at least on point, Brodies fell short, not even offering caffeine content. Brodies website is even more unhelpful than the bag. Both of these are strange lose "leaf" teas, which are more like leaf pellets. I wasn't happy with Brodies, so I tried another well rated brand, Taylor's. This tea is the business, tastes good by itself, with milk, whatever. Plenty of punch and sizzle. It's delicious, to be frank. If you're in the market for a new tea, and haven't tried this, I highly suggest it over the other two, with H&Ss being 2nd. It actually has fuller leaves, not pellets. I will be buying more!
Review: Strong - This is the best loose leaf orthodox strong black tea I’ve come across.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: is this "full" leaf or is it mainly cut/broken pieces?**
A: It is standard loose-leaf tea, which sometimes gets quite broken during any compamy's processing procedures. This ToH Assam is less broken than many others I've tried. I've been drinking it for years.

The tea bags contain what is called "fannings" in the tea trade.

Remember, this is hardly a premium or "superior" tea -- not for that price! However, it's a very enjoyable, malty black tea that pairs well with a little cream or milk. Taylor's is a consistently reliable brand, and this Assam is always refreshing for a tea break.

**Q: Does this Tin version taste better than the cheaper Box version?**
A: For me cheaper box was better, probably, because there is a lot in one bag, therefore its strong.

**Q: Does the tea have an expiration? How long does it last?**
A: I bought the Taylors' imperial gunpowder tea just over a month ago and the expiration date is about a year from my purchase date.

**Q: Tea leaves or tea dust? A different brand i recently purchased was way to fine for my infuser so I am looking for something better.**
A: I Checked The Taylors Of Harrogate - Scottish Breakfast Which Appears To Be Leaves. Towards The Bottom, The Leaves Are Smaller Amongst Tea Dust. ( Perhaps Due To The Shipping And Settling Of Contents ? ) In Comparing The Scottish Breakfast With Twinings Of London - Prince Of Wales And Lady Grey, The Leaves Of Twinings Are A Bit Larger. Davidsons Tea - Earl Grey, Has Rather Nice Sized Leaves. ( All Of Them, However, Have Dust And Smaller Particles Near The Bottom Of The Container. ) Since I Do Have A Strainer, I Do Not Worry About The Dregs That Manage To Get Through The Infuser. About Any Loose Leaf Tea Will Work Fine For Me And My Family. I Truly Hope This Is Helpful To Thee ! : ) Hope You Find Exactly What Suits Your Needs ! Regards And Best Wishes ~Timothy

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Strong
*by D***G on April 24, 2026*

This is the best loose leaf orthodox strong black tea I’ve come across.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Red Rose Indeed!
*by R***R on February 11, 2025*

I've compared Taylor's rose and Harney and sons Rose, both are excellent. Taylor's, which I seem to prefer slightly more over Harney has a great black tea taste and aroma along with a rose scent and taste that's like a true red rose. Nothing funky or flavored, just lovely aromatic rose and China black tea. This is a classic, high quality tea. I highly recommend it if you enjoy rose tea. I also recommend never using white refined sugar, instead use the La Perruche brown cane sugar, as it compliments fine teas so brilliantly.
