## Overview

The Seresto Small Dog collar delivers 8 months of continuous, vet-recommended flea and tick protection using innovative contact kill technology. ## Description

Product Description The Seresto flea and tick collar for dogs provides continuous 8-month flea and tick protection. Unlike oral flea and tick prevention products that require a bite, the Seresto collar repels fleas and ticks and kills through contact; no biting required. Frontline flea and tick treatment does not repel (based on label claims). Seresto dog flea collars contain active ingredients imidacloprid and flumethrin, which are slowly and continuously released in low concentrations, spreading from head to toes, even the tail, over your dog’s coat and skin. Seresto flea collar for dogs is water-resistant and remains effective after shampooing, swimming or exposure to rain or sunlight. (Dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for flea control, and reduced to seven months for tick control.) This vet-recommended flea and tick collar for dogs is odorless, non-greasy and easy to apply. It can be used alongside other identification or restraining collars without damaging them. Avoid the hassle of messy monthly treatments and get the effective protection of Seresto dog flea and tick collars. Also available: Seresto flea and tick prevention for cats. Review: Works like a charm and last months - I've been using seresto collars on my dogs for years and have never had a problem with fleas or ticks. I have a dog that has seizures and this is the only thing he can use for flea prevention and it's much safer than the topical and pills. I usually get at least 8 months use out of each collar so it's well worth the price. I have small yorkies and I can cut one collar in half and sew it onto a regular dog collar and that saves me a lot of money and there's no issues at all with it working any less. I basically get two for the price of one. My dogs have never had any kind of skin irritation or problems with this collar
Review: It really works very well but start early - I live at Ground Zero for all kinds of ticks (Cape Cod, MA) and the spring can be a nightmare if you have an unprotected dog. My dog takes a once-a-month oral flea, tick and worming med but she still gets ticks without this collar. According to her vets, the Seresto collar and the oral med work via different physiological systems of the body and they say you can use both, together, without hurting the dog. This is the 4th tick season I have added this collar without any problem and it DOES work better than any tick preventive I’ve used (I’ve had dogs my whole life). The only thing I would advise is that you put the collar on the dog as per the instructions but do so 2 weeks before you think you need it because it seems to take that long to maximize it’s effectiveness. If you have any concerns, talk to your vet.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is it okay to use large dog collar on small dogs with bigger necks? Or can you use the cat collar??**
A: You have to use zip ties or pipe cleaners on a normal leash collar to attach a partial collar. There is no difference chemically between a cat, small dog, or large dog seresto collar. The only difference is the length and on the large dog it is also wider. In fact, when seresto first came out, the product only came in large dog and a small dog/cat combo collar. Seeing that they could make more money marketing a small dog AND a cat collar, they made the 3 products. If you look at all the data on them, they are the same.

**Q: Is this collar water proof for dogs who swim everyday?**
A: I wouldnt trust it for a dog that swims daily. But as far as the people who said it didnt work because they happened to see some fleas or ticks around the collar...you know the collar cant INSTANTLY kill fleas and ticks...like it takes a few hours at least so if your dog goes outside and picks up new critters, its entirely possible for that to happen multiple times and for the collar to be working perfectly. Once my roommate and I (her 3 cats and my 2 small dogs) had all our pets treated with topical stuff but we got a flea outbreak anyway that last MONTHS and we used everything out there including all natural stuff to spray our house down with and NOTHING WORKED. Finally I bought the seresto collar for 1 of my dogs and FINALLY the fleas were gone! from just ONE of the animals wearing this collar after 8 other things didnt work. The vet said that it really depends on where you live and what year it is (like which products the critters have become immune to in that area at that certain time) for what might work for you. SO to sum up, just cuz you see new fleas or ticks on your pet doesnt necessarily mean anything if your pet went outside and picked up new bugs the collar hasnt had a chance to kill yet, also something that worked for someone else in their area at the time at worked for them may not work in your area during the time you use it. Frontline used to work great in our area of NJ which is tick country, but after a while it stopped working all together and the vets started telling people to switch to other things but many people still thought frontline was the best because they didnt know. Now, its not frontlines fault that critters became immune to it, it used to work very well. You just have to keep up with what is working in your area at the time. Ive been using seresto collars for about 6 yrs with no issues but then again, I had my dogs for 11 yrs on whatever topical flea meds I could afford without ever getting fleas or ticks until I moved in with my friend who had cats so maybe my dogs just arent prone to getting fleas. I rarely let them around other animals thy dont live with and I always walk them on the sidewalk, never near the woods. So who knows? And I certainly dont ever let the collars get soaked more than once during their 8 month wear.

**Q: How long is the small collar**
A: The small collar is 13.25 inches long and will adjust down as far as needed. Once placed on your dog, you can cut off any excess (leaving about 1 inch extra on collar).

**Q: can i take off for groomer**
A: My groomer takes it off and gets it back on with ease. I am so grateful for this collar, haven't even seen a flea this year.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Worked on 7lb Papillon when Advantix drops did nothing
*by J***R on June 13, 2014*

I have always used K9 Advantix on my dogs, and never had problems until the year I started camping in Northern Wisconsin. Now, let me just say -- the K9 Advantix worked PERFECTLY on my large-breed dogs - never a single flea or tick. Knowing that we were heading into a tick-infested area, I put the Advantix drops on my 80 lb german shepherd and my 7 lb papillon a week before camping. After a walk in the woods, I found one tick clinging to the outside hair of my german shepherd, not attached -- easy to just flick right off before we went in the house. We didn't find any ticks on the papillon until we went home. First found one tick within 24 hours, had to remove it with tweezers but figured, hey, maybe it hadn't attached long enough to get killed by the Advantix. Then found another after 24 hours. And another after 48 hours (by that time it was engorged). Clearly the Advantix was not working on my papillon, though it seemed to be working on my large breed dog. Perhaps the drops, being such a low quantity due to his size, didn't absorb properly. But I wasn't about to joke around with ticks and lyme disease, so I started looking for alternative options. The day before I ordered the Seresto collar, my dog picked up a tick in my own backyard, in the city of Milwaukee, with mowed grass and everything. That was it - I was going to risk my fear of collar side-effects, watch my dog carefully, and get this collar. Fast forward 10 days after wearing the Seresto collar. No side effects (I checked FREQUENTLY for signs of rashes/redness/lethargy/hair loss), and we found a dead tick (not yet engorged) dead in the house. I'm convinced it was the Seresto collar, given that the small dog is the one who already picked up 4 ticks, while the larger dog barely picked up one. The large dog is still using up what's remaining of my K9 Advantix, but I'm likely to switch her to the Seresto collar next year. The convenience of having one collar for the whole non-winter season, the fact that it seems to WORK on my small-breed dog, and the cost per month for the collar vs the drops has sold me. I think the drops work fine for large breed dogs, but can fail due to miniscule dosage amounts on smaller breeds. The collar is safer for my dog when it comes to lyme disease, compared to the risk of side effects (which you should be on the lookout for with both drops and/or collar during the first few days of application -- anyone can have a reaction to medicine if they're allergic). Seresto has sold me on their collar -- now all we have to do is repeat the camping experience and see how long the collar lasts. Happy camping!
