Saved my old laptop
I have an older i7 quad core laptop that still has a lot of life left in it. Except the fan just quit working on it. I have it always on waiting for remote connections from my Chromebook, and I run boinc in the background. So, it has to have a fan, or it gets too hot. I set this up on my laptop and the temperature went from 130 degrees to 98 degrees within about 5-7 minutes. I just leave it on the automatic setting. It was pretty 'cool' (pun intended) to see that as the fan started working and the temperature started to cool down, the fan would then automatically slow down a bit. So, the automatic setting seems to work perfectly on this. So, far I am incredibly happy, this gets around the problem of a broken internal fan for my laptop and I hope to get many more years of use out of it. If this ever wears out I will definitely buy another!

The Hopeful Solution that just wasn't meant to be.
I have a laptop that is slowly beginning to show its age. It is a quad core processor with 16G ram and about twice a week I experience a video failure due to suspected overheating..........the laptop will sometimes freeze up and I have to wait maybe 10 or 15 seconds for it to respond and then it works fine again until maybe 4 hours or 2 days later......just whenever it takes a notion. I notice it after I have been browsing online pictures for a length of time. The air from my exhaust is very warm even though I have a cooling pad with 5 fans (that greatly helped but did not completely solve the issue.) I saw this an thought it would be the perfect answer.I received this fan, attached the rubber seal and physically located it where it would be mounted and turned it on hoping for some great results. Alas, it was not to be so. My exhaust temperature was running 94 degrees F at the time and stayed at that level even after I held the unit in place for more than 5 minutes. I never saw a reduction in temperature. After investigating I could see the issue is the rubber seal not only covers the exhaust port on my laptop......but on this particular model HP Envy DV6-7210 it also covers the intake vent right below the exhaust vent. So while it was trying to remove hot air, it also completely block the intake of fresh air to replace the hot air.......it did absolutely nothing.I am returning this for credit. IF your laptop has the intake vent in a different location well removed from the exhaust vent it might work for you. I even tried reversing the rubber seal and then the large lip that is designed to seal under the bottom edge of the laptop actually wrapped over the top of my laptop and pressed down on the left most keys.Very disappointing to say the least. I have bought a new laptop a few months ago in anticipation of having to shift over but just have not forced myself to do so..........guess I need to go ahead and take that plunge and save this baby for a rainy day backup. Hopefully you will have better results if you need a device like this. The unit seemed well constructed, felt good, looked good, etc. but just didn't fit my computer.

Buy this before buying a new laptop
I just received this in the mail yesterday and I already feel compelled to write this review. I was ready to start looking for a new laptop because the overheating in my current laptop was totally ridiculous - the cooler is at 114 degrees Fahrenheit right now. The installation was easy except the manual didn't say anything about connecting the USB cable it comes with so in case you are wondering why it doesn't work - you have to connect the USB cable and it should turn on automatically as you power on your laptop. The fan suction should be airtight to the laptop. I had to use the permanent adhesive method to make sure they hold on tightly because the little suction cups method didn't work for me. The four foam-padded adhesive pegs they supplied were also helpful with leveling my laptop after applying the external fan. This product saved my laptop and I am so happy I purchased this first.

Works great! But...
I bought this because I was worried that my 1" thick laptop was working a little too hard trying to keep cool, especially when running resource intensive programs (e.g. games, streaming services, etc.). I think it's a pretty genius design. Instead of blowing air diffusely (and inefficiently) into the laptop like a cooling pad, you suck the hot air directly out of the vent, thereby allowing the internal components to radiate heat away more effectively.I'm happy to say that it actually works as expected. When running a separate temperature monitoring program for reference, I can see the CPU internal temperature drop by as much as 20 degrees Fahrenheit, sometimes more. Keep in mind that this is the internal temperature of the component itself, which won't be the same as the air temperature coming out of the vents. Even so, the results are amazing. Here's why it loses a star. This thing can be attached to any air vent on your laptop, BUT, attaching it to the rear vent can put a limit on how much you can tilt the screen back, especially if you have a one inch thick laptop like mine. You can see what I mean in the attached picture. This isn't a deal breaker for me because I use an external monitor at home anyway. And, considering how well this unit works, I'm willing to live with this limitation when I'm traveling. I can still tilt the screen back just enough. One other problem I had - and Opolar may have already fixed this - is that I was unable to switch between temperature units. It's stuck on Fahrenheit with no way to change it to Celsius. I contacted the company about this on May of 2016, and I was told that the engineers were rewriting the program to incorporate dual temperature modes. I'm hoping that they might release a firmware update for those of us who already own it. It's a little annoying, but I can live with it because this unit works so well.If I were to do it over again, I would have bought the LC05, which doesn't have a temperature display, and then used a separate temperature monitoring program, which you can easily find on the internet for free.
