Easy to fill, just pull the top off, full with salt, pepper or whatever else you wish to grind. At the bottom you can alter the grind course to fine. The bottom cap is very easy to remove by holding in your palm and a twist. I'd recommend these as stylish and robust mills that look to be decent quality and last a long time. I opted for these over less expensive ones due to good reviews and the simple yet beautiful look. I bought the small version as I'm a small household and lack storage so small is ideal, but if you use a lot of salt and pepper I suggest buying the larger size to save constant refilling if you have space to store. I decided to try to undo both items before filling, as had read reviews saying the end caps are hard to remove. The tops to fill the mills came off easily. The bottom caps were easy to remove also. The mechanism is top quality and easy to adjust to the grind size you want. However there are some points to be aware of. They are easy to chip, even a slight knock takes the paint off. Also the base cap gets quickly covered with salt/pepper, so regular cleaning is needed.
