It holds it just like any other can

I don't know exactly. But it is the standard distance that bottle cage mountings have.

Q: will it fit a wide mouth 32 oz nalgene?

Im using it with a 25 oz Camelbak Podium and its a snug fit. If the bottle diameter is larger than that, you may have to bend the wings out to get a fit.
