## Overview

Seachem ParaGuard is a 250ml liquid aquarium treatment featuring a 10% aldehyde-based formula that safely eradicates ectoparasites, fungal, bacterial, and viral infections in both freshwater and marine fish. Unlike traditional formalin treatments, ParaGuard is formalin-free, pH neutral, and safe for fish and filter media, making it ideal for hospital tanks and new fish introductions. Trusted by aquarists for over two decades, it offers a stress-free, effective solution to maintain vibrant, healthy aquatic life.

## Description

ParaGuard is the only fish and filter safe aldehyde based (10% by weight) parasite control product available. Unlike highly toxic and difficult to use formalin based medications, ParaGuard contains no formaldehyde or methanol and will not alter pH. ParaGuard employs a proprietary, synergistic blend of aldehydes, malachite green, and fish protective polymers that effectively and efficiently eradicates many ectoparasites on fish (e.g. ich, etc.) and external fungal/bacterial/viral lesions (e.g., fin rot). It is particularly useful in hospital and receiving tanks for new fish and whenever new fish are introduced to a community tank. For use in freshwater or marine. ParaGuard is recommended for the treatment of certain diseases in marine and freshwater fish only. It IS NOT recommended for treating any style aquarium containing invertebrates, corals, crustaceans, or elasmobranchs (sharks and rays).

Review: ParaGuard Saved My Community Tank! - I noticed one of my fish had what looked like a fungal-type growth along with ich spots on its body. By the time I caught it, the infection was already pretty severe and unfortunately the fish did pass away. Most of my other fish were either unaffected or only had a few visible spots, maybe around 3–4 spots at most. The next morning, as soon as ParaGuard arrived, I started treatment. I was honestly nervous at first because I was worried it might stain the water, harm my plants, or crash my beneficial bacteria. To help support the tank, I also dosed Brightwell Aquatics MicroBacter Start alongside the ParaGuard. I monitored the tank closely and tested the water daily. Throughout treatment my ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate all stayed at 0 ppm, which was a huge relief. I also raised the tank temperature to around 81°F to help speed up the ich life cycle. Within 24 hours, I could no longer see visible ich spots on any of the fish. I still continued dosing every 24 hours for about a week to make sure any remaining parasites in the water column were eliminated. In my experience, ParaGuard worked quickly and effectively for a mild-to-moderate outbreak, especially in a planted community tank with sensitive fish and shrimp. I can’t say how it would perform in a very severe tank-wide outbreak, but based on my experience I would definitely recommend it.
Review: Great for ick and fin rot - but usually takes 3 days to work - I get most of my fish through mail order. By the time they get to me they are often starting to show symptoms of any disease they've EVER been exposed to. This helps. I have successfully treated fish with ich, fin rot and body fungus. You do need to keep the treatments up, though - just putting in a dose for one day won't be enough. The directions are to use one capful for every 10 gallons daily. "Repeat as long as required as long as fish show no signs of stress." You can also use this as a preventative dip for new fish (which I highly, HIGHLY recommend) by putting half a capful per gallon of the dip. The good news is that not only do you not have to take the charcoal out of your filter and you do not have to worry about snails or shrimp, either. I did a heavy series of doses on one tank that had cherry shrimp in it, and not one died or even looked sick. If you keep fish, you really need to have medications on hand to treat them when something breaks out. Early treatment is key. I keep this and maracyn 2 on hand so I can nip diseases in the bud. Prazipro has a good reputation, too, but I have not tried that. Maybe there is a better broad spectrum treatment available than ParaGuard, but I have not found it yet. I would definitely like to hear people's feedback if they've found something that works better. By the way, this is what the bottle says: "ParaGuard is the only fish and filter safe aldehyde based (10% by weight) parasite control product available... contains no formaldehyde or methanol and will not alter pH... employs a blend of aldehydes, malachite green and fish protective polymers... effectively eradicates many ectoparasites (ich, etc) and external fungal/bacterial/viral lesions (eg, fin rot)."

## Features

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Happy Healthy Fish
*by G***H on December 19, 2024*

Seachem ParaGuard is a fantastic product! I’ve been using it for my African cichlids, and it has worked wonders in keeping them healthy and free from parasites. It effectively eradicates ectoparasites, fungal, bacterial, and even viral issues without harming the fish or stressing them out. I appreciate that it’s a safer alternative to formalin while still being highly effective. Plus, it’s versatile and works well in both freshwater and marine setups. I’ve seen a noticeable improvement in my cichlids' health and behavior since using it. This is now a staple in my aquarium care routine. Highly recommended!
