Review: A crust must! - I got this as a replacement to a pie bird I had for decades. Not sure when or how I lost the original but it really does make a difference in your crust using the pie bird. I use this in apple pie to vent the steam from inside the pie and to keep the pie crust from getting mushy. The pie bird stands in the middle of the pie during baking and once the pie is baked, his job is done. I wash mine by hand and use a nipple brush (from baby bottles) to clean the beak. Wonderful kitchen tool.
