Good book but feels like a different Clem
Follows on from the events of season 4 but Clem feels like a different character. Not too bothered by it though as I can differentiate between the games and the novels easily and Clem is supposed to be growing up…

If you're a fan of TWDG this is really good...
** spoiler alert ** “I don’t know, something in me changed after I got bit. I ignored it for a while but it keeps growing. This idea that I...I was going to live. And not just day by day like I had been. I could live for months...years...that I might be an adult someday, like my mom was. I don't know why but it scared me so much. So much that it felt like I couldn’t breathe.” I was conflicted on whether I wanted to read this because whilst I'm a big fan of TellTales 'The Walking Dead' - I'm not the biggest fan of Tillie Walden. I've only read 'Are You Listening?' by the author and whilst I enjoyed the story, I struggled with Tillie's art style. It's beautiful don't get me wrong, she's a very talented and her art is definetely her own, I personally struggle with a lot of panels. For me, it's not always clear what's happening. I picked this up because I love Clementine as a character and for me she was potrayed well, but a few things here fell a little flat for me. So Clementine leaves AJ, which if you played all the games, makes little to no sense. Now this is not a downfall of the graphic novel at all but I was hoping maybe we'd get some insight in why Clementine left, and we do but we also don't. She has a really nice conversation with Ricca in the last third of this that describes what it's like to be a young person in this world. How exhausting it is to constantly feel safe and build a life only for it to fall apart a few weeks later and watching the people you've grown close to die. This is very in character for Clem, again if you've played the games, you'll know the hell this girl has been through. However it is a tired trope in post-apocolyptic stories and whilst it is realistic, it's been to death so I hope in future volumes of this (volume two is coming summer 2023) Clementine remembers her younger self a little more. Having hoping has killed many, but it hasn't killer her. Yet. I liked the characters, Ricca in particular. Again the story was a little 'I've seen this before' in that Clem joins a group to built something better and it all goes to sh*t. Again, it's realistic but if you've played the games and hell, even watched the show, this is kind of all there is which is what leads to it become very samey and hard to tell the difference between all the different medias. The last page of this was beautifully done and I am looking forward to seeing where this goes now. I will be reading volume two as this has peaked my curiousity. What's keeping me is the character and Tillie's writing, I still struggle with the art style but will not be lowering my rating because of it again.

Clementine Book One keeps Telltale's tradition of further exploring the source material with its wonderful cast and a bucketful of personality

I thought this book was fantastic. It's a little light as far as words per page, which is a nitpick i often have with a lot of more independent graphic novels. But its a small nitpick. The art is great, the story is interesting, and i cant wait to see more next year. The story picks up in a spot i didnt expect after the events of the story that came before. I hope we get some more detail about why Clementine starts the story where she is, because this isnt where she was at the end of her previous story... and something big must have changed to make her leave. It's touched on in the pages of this, but I feel like the reader will want a little more explanation than that. I know I do... But the good news is that book 2 is coming next year, so maybe I will get the closure im looking for. But overall, this is a solid first act. Added bonus for me personally: the second half of the story takes place in a locale im very familiar with, which was pretty neat. It was also just nice to see Clem again.

This book is amazing, very well written and very lovely images. As a person that loves Clementine so hard, this was the best thing I've ever got! I recommend you to end the game before starting reading this book because you will get spoilers, Ive already got since page 3-4 because the book doesn't start with season 1 so yeah, I am planning to read it after I end the game. UPDATE: I just ended the serie and i read the book and the thing is, Clementine seems to be a bit more rude than usual and the story might happen after years from the last episode of season 4. This thing about her personality could be normal, if we look in the past Clementine changed a lot every season because she went trough different things and this kinda ''rude'' personality could be just frustrations or her mental state being very bad, especially because she's always in pain trying to survive with one leg by hor own you know and that makes me think something happened to AJ over the years. Overall is a very good book, its worth the money and if you try to understand the feelings or the traumas that Clementine has.. its understandable.
