It makes the room very cosy. When they are lit I think they look very authentic. I've put premium batteries in these and so far they have lasted a couple of months (used probably about twice a week for about 5 hours at a time). I can't comment on the timer function because I don't use it. I love the remote control feature. I ended up buying a set each for my Mum and Mum-in-law and they love them too.
