Q: Does this have a high end DAC built in?

It does have a DAC, I use the optical in feed from the TV to push sound through.This is a really good piece of kit in my opinion.

Q: Does this unit have its own speakers

No it's only the music player so you still need to add a pair of speakers. I do suggest you add a pair of good speakers in the range of £200-400 to appreciate the true sound. I use this in my study with Martin Logan Motion 4 and sometimes Peachtree Audio D4 and it sounds really good..enjoy!

Q: is this player capable of playing 64g sd card or usb

I play my iPod on it through an USB connection and it works brilliantly. Haven't tried SD card slot, but if there is one I am confident it will play audio files. There are regular firmware updates which keep it functioning with new formats.
