It does not stop starlings nor other blackbirds, not at any spring setting. Starlings quickly learn to knock the feeder about so that feed falls to the ground. Starlings empty my feeder within about 30 minutes. **Q: I've dismantled the feeder to totally clean it. I have reassembled but find it now closes with weight but does not open fully again. Any remedies ?** A: I know this is an old question but I have the answer. When reassembling do *not* tighten the nut holding the inner tube to the spindle. It needs some slack to be able to slide...the nut is a self locking type so will not come off if left loose. **Q: Does this stop pigeons too!?** A: Yes absolutely! I have watched them sit on the branch above and they cannot perch or cling to the feeder. Squirrels have given up trying! I like pigeons and squirrels but feed separately keeping the feeder for the exclusive use of our many beautiful garden birds. **Q: Does this feeder prevent crows as well ? Tnanks** A: NO! This feeder dose not stop crows nor any other blackbird. In fact, crows are so smart they learn how to defeat this feeder faster than other blackbirds. They knock the feeder about until all the feed falls to the ground -- 30 minutes to empty the feeder I have. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pretty indestructible and easy to fill/clean *by I***D on 6 July 2025* I've waited a year to leave this review to use this and get a real idea of how tough and squirrel proof this is!I'm pleased to say it's great - really sturdy, stood the test of time and survived attacks by squirrels. I'd say it's pretty indestructible. The worst the squirrels have managed it's to strip small areas of paint off the metal top with their teeth. Whilst these patches have rusted a little, the overall look of the feeder is still good.Use wise, it's very easy to fill up - just unhook the hanger and lift off the outer sleeve. The inner plastic container still then stand on its own cleverly designed base leaving both hands free for you to pour the bird food in. Slide the protective outer metal mesh tube with top back over, and rebook the hanger.Plus from a bird health perspective it is very easy to take apart and clean - I can get into all the awkward bits with a bottle brush so no need to completely dismantle. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ More expensive but worth it *by W***R on 30 November 2024* This is the best bird feeder I have ever bought. Great design, sturdy and functions really well. Easy to add the bird feed. I was dubious about the cost v performance but have been very impressed. The squirrels came for the first few days after I put it in place but they could not get to the seed and they no longer even try and just go to the other feeder in the garden which was actually meant for them. I have been very happy with this purchase ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Squirrel-proof, but very messy *by G***T on 16 August 2023* Got this to replace a basic hanging bird feeder for my second floor balcony. The other feeder was knocked off by a jackdaw, and smashed to bits on the ground underneath. This is very sturdy, and despite their best efforts flinging themselves against it, it's not fallen off or shown any signs of damage.We have pretty determined grey squirrels, but they've been totally defeated by this - they stopped trying to pick their way in, after a couple of days. Local idiot wood pigeons also couldn't work it out, and just stood around pecking the sides, before waiting for the other birds to drop bits they could eat.That's the only issue we found - small birds can get access to so much seed, they throw it everywhere.
