Review: If you can get past the licenses and grab an option file, this is definitely worth getting. - I have sat on the fence for the past 2 months over which to buy this year. Whether it would be Fifa or Pes. I have flicked between both games over the years. Last year I went with Fifa, this year after playing both demos and hearing the general feedback (the official fifa forums are full of negative threads) I took the leap and got pes. Definitely a good move. The game seems to flow better, the gameplay seems smoother and generally more enjoyable. The difficulties levels are challenging. Regular/Semi-pro on pes actually gives the com team more actual chances, they will actually try to score (Unlike fifa where they dawdle and dither about doing not very much). Licenses seem to be an issue people have, Option files are easy to install. Had one sorted and running in no time. Gone are the times on ps3 where it would be copy and paste every single item. Now it is select all, import and leave it to do its magic. With an option file sorted pes now looks the part. Graphics wise I was actually blown away. The likeness and realism of most the players, stadiums and even fans in the stadium shows that it is ahead of fifa in this aspect. I mainly play career mode and the master league in pes does well. I like the layout and ease of use while in masterleague. loading times are decent and sorting out transfers, scouting, youth team is fun. It is nice to not have a button lag or delay as experienced on fifa. The one drawback I see is just with the transfer market. Konami could improve on this by making the transfer budget and costs/fees a bit more realistic. Still a little too low. There may be views that the menu layout can be a little dated, but to me it works without any lagging so I cannot complain. The only main downside I can see is the commentary. Still a lot better then it was on the last pes i played (pes 13) but still a bit behind fifa. Nothing which is a deal breaker. Naturally I hear the argument on scripting. Regardless of whether you play fifa or pes, if you are playing on the highest difficulty then there will be scripting in one way or another. I would definitely recommend this years pes to anyone wanting to try it. Obviously it is known there is a learning curve involved in switching (20 odd games will do it) but it is worth it.
Review: Best football game to date!! Easily!! - Having been someone who buys both pro evo an fifa, ive gotta say, this will be the first year I do not buy fifa. I am someone who enjoys playing online co op with mates, which previously has not been great with pro evo because of the servers etc and difficulties just finding a match. Well that has all been solved this time around. Last night I was playing both 2v2 and 3v3, which was fantastic, no lag, played smooth, and as a bonus for me, we finally have divisions when playing co op... Gameplay is fantastic, super smooth, passing, shooting looks great, animation is fantastic. Every pass, every shot, the way players move with the ball on and off is great. Dribbling is also way improved, can run with the ball at speed, can even meg players which is cool to do. Ball physics too look top notch and are better than ever. I can never understand how people will say fifa is the more realistic game. Could easily gone on and do the comparison to fifa, but there is no point, all I will say is that I believe this is the best football game to date, yes the menus are still poor and the commentary, but that's hardly a major thing, I could go on for longer here, but for anyone that has not even tried pro evo,,if you are a true football fan, you really need to try this. Will be doing the simple upload of the kits too, which is very straight forward, for anyone who has not done it previously.

### ⭐⭐⭐ Overall a good footy game but not without its flaws (no FIFA comparisons here)
*by O***L on 20 September 2017*

The reviews and comparisons to Fifa 18 are laughable, considering Fifa 18 is not even out and the comparisons just need to stop. So let’s begin with PES 2018, only. The game itself lacks modes but that’s not a downside to the game, the same goes for online gaming which I honestly don’t care about. Now the gameplay mechanics combined with the A.I.. There is so much potential and the players on the pitch alone are really well designed and the movement is excellent, however the downfall of this game is the predictable play from the computer and lack of A.I. movement of your own uncontrolled defenders. Every team I have played from low, average and high skilled teams all play the same way. General – The chipped through balls out to the wing are far too common, in fact, they happen at least 5 times in a 10 minute match. On top of that the ‘fancy flicks’ are from the type of football you play on the playground. It’s fun but when the low skilled players can do skilful moves with fancy flicks and back-heels it’s gets not only repetitive you spend half of your time falling for it on every occasion. Again this may be down to the flaws not in the gameplay but in the tactical system setups that Konami have setup. Either way its frustrating and too predictable for long term playing. The one touch football is great to look at so it can be easy to keep ball but when the CPU has the ball the one touch system is overdone. At times the CPU could arguably play the one touch football for the entire game, far too predictable. Goalkeepers – the movement in the box is fair and unpredictable, which is a good thing but the “shooting shots straight at the goalie where they make a hash of it” again happens far too often and are pretty much giveaway goals due to no fault of your own. The one-on-ones are hard to analyse because it seems that 99% the players gets to the ball before the goalie gets there and you also find that they even come out for a through ball without you even pressing the button. Going forward the goalies have approved from previous PES games, there’s no question about it but the flaws take away the fun and frustrate you as a player but these are things which should have been solved in earlier PES games. Defending – apart from being penalised for mistakes or being able to make last ditch challenges two downsides – is the occasional hazard of the players falling over your slide 2 seconds after you made the challenge which can result in a yellow or red card which is harsh. I don’t see an easy fix for it from the developers because sometimes players can make mistakes. The other downside is when the CPU determines positioning and attempting to block shots in and outside of the box. You feel you need to do everything, if you have world class defenders you shouldn’t have to pick the player, move to position them in front the attacker player and make the block. Its the 2018 game and this should already been built into the game. Attacking – just like with any football game the attacking playing is pleasing, looking at the earlier comments I made in reference to the fancy flicks and back-heels its fun when it happens for you but frustrating when a low skill opposition outclass you with this. The crossing and movement of the attackers is good to see where some instances the attacker moves to the near or far post. Through balls can be extremely advantageous and a good tool to use to push the opposition back into the box. The only criticism is the easy use of the chip through ball whether it be to the wing or through the middle – it’s too easy whether its you the player or the CPU. Corners – Not much to criticise, in fact, it’s one of the much improved areas from past PES games. Movement of players will make sure you are on your toes with the mix of options when it comes to Man-to-Man or Zonal marking in addition allowing you to get players to make runs or allowing you to move a player in the box before the ball is crossed. From the dead ball situation you can vary the height with a high lofted cross or flat driven ball so its ‘fizzed in’ keeping your opponent guessing. Going forward its a step in the right direction, there are too many getting excited too quickly. Wondering why the transfers were not up to date but you can make the big name changes easily. The licensing is also known to be an issue but with the edit mode and USB transfer you can easily get this fixed so its’ not a downside to the game. 3/5 – Good footy game but many flaws. Controlling players is a positive and how they pass, cross or take shots is varied from player to player so the potential in gameplay is there but needs work on teamwork and tactical setups for 2019 and beyond.
