It absolutely DOES work in filtering gas/oil premix from water; and the premix does not affect the funnel performance. While I am not 100% sure what technology is used, the funnel DOES NOT simply rely on the difference in density to separate the water. In fact, you can fill the funnel with water...and none will go through. I validated this as well; and it functioned perfectly both before and after using with premix. Sorry "P", but you are 100% incorrect. **Q: Is the filter replaceable or how do you clean it** A: Manufacturer recommends that you NOT clean it. Filter portion is not replaceable because it doesn't wear out and is self-cleaning since nothing sticks to the teflon coated filter material. **Q: After filtering several gallons of gasoline, how does the filter rid itself of the water it has absorbed?** A: The filter does not absorb any water. It prevents it from passing through and collects it in the sump of the funnel. It can be disposed of if heavily contaminated, or poured into a container and saved as "unfiltered fuel". **Q: Mr. Funnel AF15CB Fuel Filter: About how many gallons of gasoline can it filter continuously without the filter being too full to work?** A: Who Knows !!!! I have filtered > 500 gallons of gasoline without any problem. However, as an experiment when I first purchased it, I mixed about 1/2 pint of water and methanol in 1 gallon of gasoline. Under that scenario, the filter clogged after about 1 quart of gasoline was filtered. So, in conclusion, it will clog proportionally to the amount of contaminants in the fuel. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cheap insurance for your expensive tools and toys! *by B***N on September 17, 2013* I immediately put this funnel to use when I received it, and I couldn't be happier with the results!Here are a few recent uses for this incredible funnel:1.) My trimmer does not see a lot of use, and often sits for weeks at a time. When I do fire it up, it always runs poorly and needs a bit of choke all the time it's running. This funnel allows me to pour the unused fuel tank out into a small gas can, and store the trimmer empty. When I'm ready to use the trimmer, I pour the fuel into the trimmer using the Mr. Funnel, and now every time I fire it up it's good clean gas! Now my trimmer runs like a beast, with the choke full off. I do the same for my leaf blower now, as well.2.) My lawn tractor was also running poorly. The difference here was not so much the fuel left in the tractor, as it sees frequent use. It must have been the fuel sitting in the gas can for weeks at a time, building up moisture. I filled the tank using the Mr. Funnel and the same gas I'd been using, and the tractor runs much better now. It starts faster and does not sputter during warm-up.3.) In my portable generator I had over 5 gallons of fuel treated with STA-BIL. Several months passed, and I couldn't stand the thought of all that fuel sitting in there unused. I drained the fuel into a gas can and put it in my car. BAD IDEA, without a Mr. Funnel!!! I went to start the car the next day, and it wouldn't start. Immediately I knew it was water in the fuel. The filter media for the in-tank fuel pump swells when introduced to water, so I didn't harm my car (thank goodness). I removed the in-tank fuel pump to let it dry out, and drained out all the fuel. I poured it right back in using the Mr. Funnel, and the car started right up and has been running great ever since.Thanks Mr. Funnel! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I would buy again! *by J***S on July 20, 2025* Works great! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pretty good but not perfect.... *by I***G on November 28, 2014* This is a nice filter for adding gasoline to your equipment. However, it is not GREAT. The bottom of the filter is location approx. 1" above the bottom of the funnel. So the last inch of gasoline your into your Mr. Funnel does not get filtered. You MUST pour this volume of gasoline (approx. 1/2 cup) back into your gas can. This is not really easy to do because of the lack of directional pouring spout. So you need another funnel to pour the remaining gasoline out of Mr. Funnel or you end up with a mess of gasoline all over your gas can, equipment and maybe yourself. Not the kind of mess I like to have around my house or my shed. The filter DOES work to filter the water and debris out of your gasoline. Your equipment does receive clean water-less gasoline. This is nice and reduces maintenance problems down the road.
