This connector lets me connect my old Canon DV camcorder to my Mac so I can download and keep all my family movies. Basically it connects a FireWire 400 plug on the camera cable to a FireWire 800 port on the Mac. The Mac software is apparently backward compatible so it handles the FireWire 400 traffic properly and even controls the camcorder. Worked reliably and first time.
