That's what the metal contacts are for. The adapter itself is not mechanical, it has no electronics or moving parts - there is nothing that needs to "work." Most of the poor reviews for these adapters are from people who think they are plug and play. They are not. CFL bulbs use a ballast. LED lights do not. In order for the LED to work, the ballast must be removed, taken out of the equation. This means you literally have to go into the ceiling/wall, find the junction box and snip the wires to bypass the ballast. I've done 5 of these in my home and they all work perfectly.
