Works well with the right primary load
This is the third of this type of product I've purchased, the second also from Monster. At the time I purchased this one it appeared to be an end of product sale and was heavily discounted, although I continue to see it available. All of the products like this - power sensing on one outlet to control power to other outlets - has worked well for me. I've learned from experience the controlling product has to consume a fair amount of power to properly trigger the other outlets. Part of that is when my primary device is off, it really isn't off. It can come on using the remote control so it always has to be awake enough to see the remote. While it would be nice to have a threshold adjustment I've managed well with all of the primary devices I've used.

Do not buy. Avoid. Missing key feature.
Edit: I'm bumping this up. After using it with my computer, I've founded it great. Once the computer shuts down so does everything else. So I'm bumping it to 3 stars. This power strip's green feature can not be turned off. This limits the functionality massively. Need always on ports? Sorry only two are always on. The other 4 turn off with the one master one draws too little power. This means it's only useful for desktop computers of a certain size. Otherwise it's a very expensive extension cord. The design error here was not to have a switch to turn the green power thing off.

It simply doesn't work
I have 2 other power saving power-strips that I've been using for years, and they do exactly what they're supposed to do. This one simply doesn't work. have my PC plugged into the controlling plug, and my 2 monitors and a printer in the controlled ports. Not only do the other ports never turn off, If I come back the next day, my computer has magically restarted (it's never done that on regular power).I went to the Monster site to see if there were some directions that I'm missing to make this thing work correctly, and I couldn't even find any reference to this product on their support page. It seems even they know it's a dud, but sadly you can still buy it here.Don't waste your money on this item. Monster's focus is power for Video-Audio, and this must have been their attempt to enter this power-saving market, but they seem to have missed the mark

Perfect
I had a problem with my computer monitor not going to sleep when my computer shut off or went to sleep when connected via HDMI. Then I read that they sell these surge protectors that switch off peripherals when you shut off the main component. This thing works beautifully. I plugged the computer into the "control" plug, which is "always on" or always "hot" and you plug the monitor into the one of the switched plugs which is switched on/off based on the control device. When the computer turns on, the monitor comes on, when you turn the computer off, the monitor turns off. Freaking awesome. It's got a couple more plugs for anything else you would want to turn off like a printer or a second monitor. I needed something small and this thing is nicely sized and doesn't have a large footprint.

Waste of money
They did not last long and did not do what they were supposed to. I bought three and they quit working and did not go to sleep like they were supposed to

Great for a computer set up
This item was a great pick up, if you are using it for a computer. It is set up to shut three plugs off unless the main CPU is active.I would not recommend this for an entertainment system.Should be helping my parents save money in the future as well.

Dies what it says on the tin!
Does the job, it hasn't had to protect against a surge yet, I had another green switch from another brand that I got from a big box store that didn't work. So I order this and it fits the bill, I love switching off equipment that I don't use, and to do it automatically, it gets done!

The other bad reviews are due to buyers saying "I can't understand" ...
It's an interesting concept, and the hardware is quality equipment. The other bad reviews are due to buyers saying "I can't understand" or "that's a stupid concept." Well, they should have read the description before they bought it.If you're ok with a situation where 2 outlets are continuously available, and the 4 others are offline until one of the items run (I've got a continuously running filter, for example, so all 6 outlets are always available). this high quality 2000+ joules protector is a great buy.I am docking a point, since a continuously running light socket timer was apparently not enough power consumption to make the other 4 outlets available.**Update: I've got to drop 1 more point, noting that the device doesn't have a standard on/off switch. You have to simply unplug the whole thing, or hope both of your devices plugged into the continuously-running plus have their own on/off switch.
