Pruett dated January 31, 2008 to be very compelling, and perhaps the single most influential on my decision. So, I placed my order, and I chose to order without the height attachment. The package arrived as promised. On time, no signs of exterior packing damage. I opened the box carefully, and was impressed with the way that they were able to pack the scale safely in a surprisingly small box. Adequate internal foam cushioning, and no damage to the scale. I was a bit surprised to discover that the installation instructions were nothing more than a tri-fold document with outstanding quality illustrations and very few words. Total words in English across 4 pages of illustrations is ten (10). But these are high quality illustrations printed on glossy card-stock paper. VERY NICE! It took only a few minutes for me to realize that I had all the directions I needed to assemble the scale. Once I had all of the parts laid out on the floor, it took about 10 minutes to assemble. Another 5 minutes to "zero" it in, and it was set to go. My intention for this scale is that it be the last one I purchase, and that it last for the rest of my life. If I'm going to work hard to exercise and eat right, then it is only natural that I be able to accurately track weight gain or loss. It was packaged very well (I do shipping as part of my job), except for disposing of the styrofoam, there was no difficulty in assembling these scales with the clear illustrations in the accompanying pamphlet. It seems to be accurate, although I have no certified weights at hand to verify with. The adjustment screw on the counterweight is very accessible. I have seen the other reviews on these scales and noticed complaints on the beam swinging up and down too much. I use balance beam scales at my work and it is fairly simple to figure out: if the beam swings up the same distance over the point of center as down then that is virtually the correct reading. The only thing I was not expecting was how big these scales are. I am 6 feet tall and if someone with somewhat shorter than myself I could see this being an issue. I weigh myself every morning & it is a blessing not having to play guessing games with what I weigh.
