He was that great – much more than a superb musician with an uncanny ear and dexterity."This very extended pair of interviews with Rolling Stone in 1972 presents some of that greatness in the form of Garcia's extraordinarily articulate and interesting musings on life at large, the Acid Tests and the state of America in the early 70s in particular. A sense of this comes in his throwaway line, responding to being asked what the point of life might be, when he suggested it could be to 'become a conscious tool of the universe.'
