Bear with me here
A while ago I got four nice 0.5mm mechanical pencils to compare:- Uni Kuru Toga Roulette : Haven't touched this one in months. It's very interesting mechanically, but the lead wiggles too much and the rotating feature doesn't make enough of a difference for that to be worth is for me. Maybe in a larger lead size this would work better. I have to admit it looks cool though.- Uni Shift Pipe Lock : The retractable lead pipe is nice. I have bent the lead pipe on the staedler and pentel pencils, so keeping it away can help with that. The wiggle isn't too bad but the weight distribution is a bit off for me. This would be a great pencil to throw in the bottom of your bag if you need a draft pencil that can take a bit of a beating. Otherwise see the options below.- Staedler 925 25-05 : My solid #2. Very well made, no lead wiggle as long as the tip is screwed on tight, so writing is smooth. The knurling is a bit sharp but personally I enjoy that grip. I keep one of these at my desk so I don't have to take my other pencil out of my bag. My biggest issue is that the eraser feels a bit loose, but it's not too bad. The price is a bit much for me too.- Pentel Graphgear 500 : Instantly my favorite, and has stayed as such for the couple of years I've used them. The lead pipe is totally fixed to the grip so there is no lead wiggle and I've only had it bend once when it flew spinning down onto tile. The knurling is a bit softer than the staedler, it's a nice middle ground. The eraser feels tight but it does wear a bit fast as someone who makes a lot of mistakes. Just a good pencil, and the cheapest of the lot. That's hard to beat.As someone who does a lot of math and diagrams on paper I pretty much stick to the 0.5mm graphgear now. Alongside it I use the Pentel Hi-Polymer eraser for bigger erasing jobs and a MUJI 0.38mm black pen for dark permanent lines. I highly recommend both of these too, no matter what pencil you use.

These are exellent mechanical pencils at an unbeatabel price!
I've been using Pentel mechanical pencils for decades, and the brand hasn't offered a single disappointment. In keeping with the rest of their product line Pentel's Graph Gear 500 (mid-line) Automatic Drafting Pencils hit the price/quality bullseye, so If you're looking for comfort, accuracy, "feel", and durability these are a fine choice. Graph Gear pencils come preloaded with the brand's slightly pricey high polymer HB leads. It should be said that these hit the same high mark and are definitely worth the money.

did not get a whole dozen but great pencils
I bought a dozen but like others, I was missing like 2-3, right in the middle of the box. How can you miss that? I did contacted Amazon and asked if these come prepacked. They told me their logistic team packed them.....wow, obviously the team needs training. That aside, i got these over the 800 or even the 1000 due to the price of course. I just started drawing again and like to draw with color lead and normal HB lead so I want a few to have for each colors. That means I can't really afford the higher up ones. These are quite nice overall. Lead has not break on me yet. bottom heavy as it's made of metal, the rest are just plastic. However I just got a rOtring pencil when Amazon was having a sale and if you have used the 600 or 800 then this graphgear will be like a feather in your hand. It is supper light compared to the rOtring, then again, the rOtring is super heavy to me. I have not tried the heavy one yet as I don't want to get use to it and can't afford to get a second one......so if you just do writing and some basic sketching/drawings like I do, these are great for them. I really can't say anything negative about it..not even the small eraser as I use a separate one.

GREAT mechanical pencils
We buy these pencils every year as prizes for the students in our Bible class. They're the best we've ever come across and everyone loves them. The metal grip is enough to make it feel strong and sturdy, but isn't heavy which would make it hard to use. The lead writes easily, and the eraser works well and it small enough to erase just a letter or two when writing.

Missing pencils
Purchased three boxes. One box has only 6 pencils. The other two boxes have 10 and 11 respectively.

Box only contained 11 pencils not 12
Same problem as many others have had; the box only contained 11 pencils NOT 12. I was not able to try my luck with another box because it was "conveniently" out of stock. As a result the "great price" wasn't all that great. Too much hassle to quibble over one pencil. Overall with exception of Pentel's inability to count, these are good pencils that do a good job.

Great Value *IF* you receive the 12 pencils
These are good value trusted pencils, however in my 12 pack I received 11 pencils (which seems to be a common problem here!!). I alerted Amazon and they are looking into it. I suspect the vendor is trying to rip off the customers and Amazon is having to rectify this. Amazon has been great in dealing with this issue and I have 5-stars for Amazon.

Great product, price & quantity.
Got these as a higher end option for "my kids to use for school" — me ;) — & both they & I have been very happy with them. Build is great, durable against middle & high schoolers, & the dozen package is great for price point & to have backups at home, work , school, etc.The only thing I'd consider for the next purchase like this is possibly 0.7mm lead as the 0.5mm is quite fine. I'm good with it, but it's definitely more fragile (especially with heavy-handed kids) feeling. And, this isn't even a gripe, just a realization for another time/purchase.
