Buffy Summers up to date.
I have only viewed the first two shows, but it is an extremely pleasant surprise.15 year old girl receives her dead father(?)'s magic staff, with novel powers, and uses it to beat the bad guys. The staff will only work with the right person. Looks like, as with Buffy, her new town has a rotten core which she will have to correct. Plus bad guys in school and at her mother's new job. The switch of having her stepfather step in as her assistant is brilliant. Essentially stay at home dad trying to create a business.I look forward to seeing if the excellence can continue.

American Maiden
I have seen several great shows from Warner Bros' collaborations with DC Comics, but lately, some shows have become terrible, relying upon immorality instead of virtue. So, when I heard that writer Geoff Johns was helming an adaptation of his own superheroine into a TV show I was wary, believing it to be as bad as other CW shows. But over time, and being bored out of my mind, I decided to check out the first episodes online and I was more than simply happy, I was overjoyed.Set in a bright and cheerful environment, Stargirl is about Courtney Whitmore. A young and beautiful California girl whose charmed life is changed when her mom gets remarried to a kindhearted man named Pat Dugan as he moves them to a new house in the American Heartland of Blue Valley, Nebraska. This new family of Courtney, her mother Barbara, stepfather Pat, and stepbrother Mike is a change that Courtney dislikes, but all things change when she finds out the truth about her stepfather. Pat Dugan was once the sidekick to a superhero named Sylvester Pemberton aka Starman. Starman was once the leader of a group of heroes known as the Justice Society of America, a team that was all but wiped out by their enemies known as the Injustice Society of America. Years of apparent inactivity by the Injustice Society convinced Pat that the mission of the Justice Society was over and that it was time to move on. But as Courtney learns the truth, she becomes the inheritor of a powerful device used by Starman known as the Cosmic Staff, as well as Courtney’s inquisitive and single-minded nature learns that the Injustice Society was never gone but have gone in hiding, plotting to destroy America with Blue Valley itself being their base of operations.Emboldened with great power, years of athletic training, and her own spirited nature, Courtney encourages her stepfather as well as some new friends of hers as a new generation of heroes to stop this threat.I must say I did not expect this show to be so good. But as I have come to know about Geoff Johns from his experience writing great comic book stories as well as his work with TV and Movies is that he knows how to tell a great story. And this show is a great story as he has his lead character filled with the right amount of humanity, naivety, courage, spirit, and beauty wrapped up in a perfect superhero package. All this being possible thanks to the talented Brec Bassinger who fills the role of Courtney Whitmore perfectly. I know that there have been other girls who have played Stargirl before, ironically not even American, but Brec plays it to perfection. Luke Wilson cannot be discounted in the role of Pat Dugan showing that he plays the former sidekick Stripesy who later becomes the armored hero STRIPE but even more than that truly is a mentor and father figure to Courtney. But it is the friends of Stargirl who cannot be discounted either and to be honest, probably should have called this show Stargirl and the Infinities as this brings the characters of the 1990s comic book series Infinity Inc to life. Yolanda Montez/Wild Cat II is marvelous as the athletic fighter played by Rambo Last Blood star Yvette Monreal. Beth Chapel/Dr. Midnite II is great as the friendly genius assisted by the digital construct that provides her with all the information of the JSA at her fingertips played by Angelika Washington. Finally, Rick Tyler/Hourman II as the moody conflicted son of his predecessor out to avenge his murdered family played wonderfully by Cameron Gellman. This along with a grand cast of actors and actresses from Court’s family, friends to the enemies in the Injustice Society. Played to perfection in many great episodes from its pilot to its first season finale. I am immensely proud to have this on Blu-ray in its entirety.Though I wish there would have been more in this collection as there are no special features. I would have liked to have seen how it came together what with the history of the actual comic book characters throughout the 1940s, 1990s, and 2000s. How this show chose its cast as well as deleted scenes and maybe even a gag reel.Still, this is a great collection, and am eagerly awaiting its second season.

This DC show is more than it appears
while not being perfect the storytelling is well done and seldom gets lazy. I am not sure what prompted me to get this season to begin with but I have found myself looking forward to the next episodes. There were hints but the story unfolds smoothly over the course of the season with all the drama that you expect. The season finale was well done and only in retrospect may have been rushed. I enjoyed is a lot

I Liked It
This was better than I was expecting it to be. This is another Super Hero show but with kids as the Supers so I wasn't sure what to expect but they all did a pretty good job with the characters they were given. As with any Super Hero show/movie - drop your belief and give it a watch. I think you'll agree.

Fun show, glad I have a permanent copy!
DC's Stargirl is unashamedly comic-bookish. Where many modern comic adaptations try to be darker and edgier than the printed material, to show how grown-up and relevant they are, Stargirl looks and feels like a comic book come to life. Bright and gaudy costumes, a sense of humor, a mid-century aesthetic, and genuine heart make this a wonderful show.
