Traditional Greek Mahlepi (Mahlab) - 50g (5 Packs of 10g)

To put the amount in perspective, 50g is equal to approximately 1.7 ounces. The price they are asking here is a lot for only that much spice. Buying the 5 pack is definitely cheaper than buying one on its own, but it's still very expensive. Penzey's spices sells this (labeled mahlab) for about 1/4 to 1/2 the cost, depending on the amount you buy.I can say, though, I was happy with the fresh, aromatic quality of the mahlepi I received from the amazon seller. It ships from Greece, which probably has a lot to do with the higher price. I do wish they would put it in a spice jar instead of little packets, but I guess it probably stays fresher longer in the packets. Overall I am happy with the quality of this item. I have head some reviews of other mahlepi sold on amazon calling it bland. This one is definitely not bland, and it has a wonderful cherry-almond sort of flavor. I would buy this again (this is my second time), although I may try the MUCH cheaper Penzey's version next time.

I didn't read the product description thoroughly and wrongly thought that I was ordering the whole mahlab spice rather than the ground. With that said, I find that the flavor is almost as good as the freshly ground mahlab. My baked product was delicious...received many compliments. I use one teaspoonful in my recipes and the mahlab packets should keep just fine in the freezer.

I have always bought whole Mahlab in order to keep it fresher longer. However, this "powder" was very fragrant--just like freshly "pounded" seeds. Will defer to this powder in the future for more fragrant smelling breads and sweets.

Out of date and it says it non returnable . Need a refund!!

This comes direct from Greece. We have ordered it several times for the bread that we make. It is always fresh and delicious. Shipping is still very fast.
