Sealant ring works well ~ Not a good idea to use cleaning tablets with sealant
This replacement sealant ring is exactly as the originalthat comes in the Fluidmaster 555c Flusher Fixer Kit and works excellent! After having the flush valve seat from the fixer kit work so well for over a yearI kinda took it for granted that I could use cleaner tablets in the tank like I used to.So I added "The Works" bleach & automatic toilet bowl cleaner tablet in the tank. The ~ 11 weeks ~ 3.1/2 ounce tablet ~~~ well that wasn't a good idea. The ingredients of the tablet softened the sealant ring, and the seal started a slow leak.I ordered this Fluidmaster sealant ring #2602 (ring only) ~ from Amazon. And followed simple steps on package.1. I turned the water off & flushed the tank to empty ~2. Pulled the old fixer seat off the original brass seat ~3. Sponged out the remaining water ~4. Pulled off what sealant I could from both seats. (It's kind of like stiff gum)5. Cleaned off the remaining skin of 'gum' on the brass seat by sprayinga cleaner/degreaser on it and scrubbing with a scotch bright scour pad.6. Then used a hair dryer for a minute to completely dry the brass,(Caution ~ don't direct hot air at same spot for extended periods)7. Positioned ring on the fixer kit seat, and then pressed the seat on brass seat. All went well, and again for now ~ no leaks.Footnote: Because pricing fluctuates you may want to comparewhat the complete Fluidmaster 555c Flusher Fixer Kit costas compared to replacing only the sealant ring.As of Oct 16, 2012Fluidmaster 555c Flusher Fixer Kit ~~~ $4.55 from AmazonFluidmaster 2602 Flush Valve Sealant Ring ~~~ $4.53 from Amazon.Given that both NOW cost about the sameit would make more sense to get the whole kit!

Does the job if it's all you need.
But I ended up getting the entire repair kit for about the same price. (It turned out that I also needed a new seat). The only reason I give this a four star rating instead of a five is because it wasn't a totally smooth shape. It was a little segmented. It still worked fine, but I had to be careful while applying it--it wanted to stretch and separate where the indentations were.

Product worked BUT
Product worked but the packaging was torn open and the ring was deformed. The 555c model flush repair kit I installed would not adhere to the toilet tank. Therefore , I added this sealant ring to the ring that was on the repair kit and with pressure molded it to the tank bottom. So far the fix is working. Would have given higher rating if the packaging had not been torn open. Also, it was a bit pricey for what you get.

Works
It does its job. What else can you say about something like this?

Didn't work
It is holding up well so far, but it has only been 3 days.Update: It came loose last night and no longer seals. The first time I thought I may not have had the toilet dry. This time I cleaned the area thoroughly and let it sit dry for 24+ hours before replacing.

Two Stars
I got about 18 months use before the seal failed. I will not use this product again.
