Sony Noise-Cancelling True Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds WF-1000XM4 - Black (Renewed)

My main reason for getting these earbuds was for noise cancellation and music. I wanted to be able to cut the lawn and listen to music. I have a John Deere S160 and when the mower deck is on, you can't hear anything over it. Full "ear muff" headsets are uncomfortable to wear in hot weather and make it very difficult to wear a had for sun protection. I have tried other in ear devices, but without noise cancelling, you can't hear the music over the mower.I got these and put some music on, started up the mower and engaged the mower deck and immediately couldn't hear the music. I "tapped" the noise cancelling on and was amazed. I could still hear the deck, but only a little. The music came in loud and clear. I was totally pleased.In addition, the "tap" controls are great an allow me to control noise cancelling and playback with a simple tap of my finger.These are also great to use to talk on the phone. Nice hands free operation without having to turn the speaker on.I have not found earbuds that I consider comfortable, but these come close.The battery life is good. It takes me between 4 and 6 hours to cut the lawn. The battery will last almost the 6 hours and since I stop along the way to take a break, just a few minutes in the charging case insure that they will still be running when I am finished.

I was looking forward to getting these Sony WF-1000XM4 earbuds, as I currently own a couple of other Sony Bluetooth headsets with ANC (active noise canceling), and use them daily. I have the Sony WH-1000MX4 headset (purchased in March 2020 and still working perfectly) and the Sony WF-C700N earbuds (purchased in September 2023, also working flawlessly).After I got these WF-1000XM4 earbuds, I eagerly followed the recommended initial charging protocol of 3-4 hours.The left earbud charged to 100%, the right earbud only charged to 44%, and the case charged to 68%.I then used them for less than 30 minutes and got a low battery warning. I checked the Sony Headphones Connect app and found the left earbud was at 96% and the right earbud at 20%. Less than 5 minutes later, I received another low battery warning, and the right earbud was at 10%. A few minutes later the right earbud died, it performed an auto shutdown!I put them on to charge again, and nearly the same results occurred: the left earbud charged fully, the right earbud charged to 52%, and the case was at 65%. Once again after less than 30 minutes of use, the right earbud's power ran out and it shut down. Yikes!!For someone who has preferred Sony ANC headsets for 5-6 years, this is incredibly disappointing. Especially given that the lower-end and cheaper model WF-C700N has never disappointed me and seems to have better sound and ANC quality, I'm really let down. I had read some negative review about this WF-1000XM4 earbud headset, but I am still amazed how Sony goofed with these. And they are described as "industry leading"? They need to be recalled.Given my experience, I cannot recommend purchasing these earbuds. The inconsistent charging and poor battery performance make them unreliable, especially compared to other Sony models that deliver better performance at a lower cost. Save your money and avoid this model, get the much cheaper, but reliable and true Sony WF-C700N earbuds instead.Sony needs to do better. This model is a dud.I have since gone thru the process to return this pair, I opted to receive a replacement unit, and I will update this review, hopefully positively, when I get the replacement pair.

The media could not be loaded. Honestly this is my first Amazon renewed purchase but these earbuds exceeded my expectations. Love the way they fit in my ears and stay even when running. They have a great bass response (I’m a huge stickler for clear but defined bass) and have had a really hard time finding good wireless earbuds that had all the qualities I wanted, but these are amazing. I’m a huge fan. I have the over ear headphone equivalent of these and always loved them so I thought I’d give these a try. I was a bit Leary with them being from the renewed store and almost 50% off the new ones. But there wasn’t a scratch on them. They looked and felt new and work perfectly.I will say the foam ear buds that come with them are THE WORST. I saw on a few other reviews that people kept recommending the ADX Eartune buds so I went with those since the are silicone and not only did they make them stay in my ear better and are far superior in comfort for longer wear time, but they also have a bigger hole and GREATLY improved the volume and clarity of the sound. So if you’re gonna get these, make sure to go ahead and by the eartune pieces. I for the medium size and it was a good general fit.

I got these earbuds to test out the state of noise cancelling earbuds. In my opinion they do not come up to the praise that I have read by professional reviewers. They do a fairly good job at noise cancellation, but are a bit heavy, a bit bulky, really could use longer battery life, and are clumsy to retrieve from the charging case. Although these are renewed items I find nothing that appears defective to them.The ear cushions are somewhat uncomfortable but you can get used to that. A good seal in the ear canal is essential to proper operation.I found the delay in responding to command taps and my spoken voice to be too long for comfortable operation. I have to anticipate the delay when using those features which is awkward when dealing with someone interrupting you.I estimate noise reduction of 6-9 db, which takes the edge off loud noises but doesn't give you real relief from them. They do seem to be more effective at reducing droning noise, and I am hoping that they will make airline flights more bearable by that but have been unable to test yet. I estimate droning noise reduction at greater than 20 db.The app is useful, but not greatly so. Still you need to install it to manage the earbuds. I've had no difficulties with the app on my Pixel phone.I wish these units were better, but they seem to be nearly the best available when I bought them. Still I give them 4 stars as a good, though imperfect, product for noise cancellation.
