I read Flowers in the attic when I was ten years old, back in the 80s. Well, first, I had read My Sweet Audrina when I was 9 and that book was the beginning of my absolute love of reading. Then came all of the Flowers in the Attic books. I loved them as a kid but as an adult I sort of assumed the writing was mediocre and that I just loved them because I was a child and hadn't read the great books yet ---- But, No!! That is not true at all! Now, at the age of 50 I am re-reading them and they are just amazing! I will sometimes put the book down and laugh and say to myself, "This is delicious!" V.C. Andrews had such a brilliant, yet twisted mind and these books are such classics, even if they are at times "soap opera-y" and far fetched. Which, they certainly are! A fun fact that I remembered while re reading Flowers in the attic; When I was first reading this book as a kid, my grandmother worked in an old orphanage and sometimes my mother would drop me off to stay with her for the weekend at the orphanage and my grandmother's room was a long huge bedroom that was right beneath the large attic. The opening was right outside my grandmother's door. And like in the book, it was a huge attic that went the length of this gigantic old building so while my grandmother was tending the kids, I would take my books and go in her room and stay in there and read --- And that was where I spent a rainy weekend back in the 80s reading Flowers in the attic. What a great memory. I've ordered a second set for my mother.

This was a Christmas gift for my friend. I bought them years ago for myself through a book club and really liked them. It's a very interesting read, if a bit dark. Whether you like them on not depends entirely on what genre you like to read. I would suggest that you read the description on them before purchasing.
