Q: Do you habe to have a certain color bulb to get the glowing effect?

I have what they call a moon light and it’s a type of blue light that causes the green and yellow one to glow pretty good but not really the purple one. So I think you do need a certain color but they don’t say that anywhere.

Q: What do they look like in regular lighting and can my fish get cauggt in the line

Well they certainly aren't as bright as advertised even with a blue night light. I don't use the string but let them bob around by themselves. I too was afraid my fish would get caught in the line. Unfortunately the water current deposits them all in the same corner.

Q: after how long do they need to be changed?

I would say 3-6 months depending on your aquarium.

Q: Can these be used in a jellyfish led tank if the tether is removed?

If the tether is removed it just floats on top of tank
