Q: Will this screw onto a male garden hose? Or is this bigger?

It is female to female ,and the inner diameter of our ball valve is 1 inch

I don't know. When I installed the valve it leaked at the joint of the valve body. I removed it, threw it away, and found an Americsn made valve.

Q: Can you switch the orientation of the handle 180 degrees? I have a clearance issue and require the handle to point the opposite direction.

Yes, these are like most quarter-turn ball valves, full port or otherwise. The handle can be installed either way, as long as the stop tab clears the protusions on the valve body-which this valve will do. The problem with these valves is poor workmanship. I bought four of them, and three leaked around the packing upon first use. No amount of tightening or fiddling would produce a good seal. The threads on all four were also cut too deep, making it difficult to get a good seal on fittings without excessive Teflon tape and tightening. You get what you pay for, buy a better valve.

Q: Can this be used to replace ball valve on backflow preventer?

Yes, if your back flow preventor has the 1” pipe threads.
