I first heard about this book on Dawn Madsen's you tube channel, Minimal Mom. I don't normally get drawn into books like this (coffee table looking books) but she described the book, showing pages from the book, and talked about the different simple to follow design concepts. Because I trust Dawn, I took a chance. I figured if I didn't like it I could return it. Well I love this book! As the author says, you don't have to like all of her personal interiors to apply the concepts to your own home and that is so true (though I do like the playfulness of some of her interiors and it is stretching me a bit). I loved the book so much that I bought one for my 86 year old mother for Mother's Day and she LOVES it. The reason that it resonated with each of us, I think, is that there is one simple concept per page, with an accompanying photo that reinforces the lesson. I'll be on the phone with mom and she'll quote me "well rule #34 says...". She even went on the hunt for a decorative pedestal flower pot to put her Monstera plant in and it has become a focal point of her fireplace area. Prior to that she was reluctantly going to pass the plant on b/c it was so large she didn't know what to do with it. She has thanked me so many times already for this gift. It really is a lovely book - both a teaching tool and a "sit in the armchair with a cup of coffee or tea" book to read for enjoyment.

Beautiful photos, with short, simple, kind advice for decorating your home. Great gift for a bride, new homeowner, or anyone who enjoys decorating or needs help!

I'm loving this book. It's sitting on my coffee table, and it looks lovely. But more importantly to me, it's filled with short reads with powerful advice about how to set up my home to work for me. Thank you, Myquillin, for giving us a full-page photo with each rule (one rule, one photo, on each 2-page spread); it helps bring your rules to life plus gives us great design inspiration and examples.

I was kind of prepared not to like this book - mainly because I thought the focus would be shabby DIY focus.I was so wrong - I have many decor books, some by famous experts in the field of home decor.THIS is the most practical and beautifully organized decor book I have ever read. Yes read! A good number of my many decor books have never been read by me - but only used as photo inspiration books. I am READING this one!Every page is packed with practical, doable decor advice - I love this book 💕

Oh my word, this is my FAVORITE decorating book EVER!!! It's like 100 decorating nuggets of gold!!! House Rules, by Myquillyn Smith, is a MUST-have book - for its beauty, wisdom, wit, and overall excellent "rules" (truths) to arm you with all the knowledge you need to create a beautiful home that's uniquely yours. And it's an easy read - one rule to a page, with stunning pics of the author's home generously placed throughout the pages. I love to read things for myself and I'm also very visual, so this book checks all the boxes for me! I've never felt so empowered by having all this wisdom and expertise at my fingertips, in one beautiful book. It was full of "lightbulb moments" for me and I think it will be for you too!Do yourself a huge favor and BUY THIS BOOK!
