This just works!
Tried a couple of other nvme boards for pi 5 and this one does exactly what it is supposed to and really well designed with an assortment of screws to allow other pi hats to share the screw holes on the pi 5. Love the angled cable. Don't bother with any other boards in the hope of saving a tiny bit of money.

Works fine
Works fine with my pi5, dog leg in the flexible means you can still access the sd slot. Make sure you get the right case for pi motherboard and this base plate. Some of the cheap metal cases don’t work as the ports don’t line up.

Pimoroni quality with some buts
I bought the Pimoroni NVMe Base adapter to add high-speed storage and to boot the O.S on my Raspberry Pi 5, but my experience has been mixed, especially given the product's intended purpose. On the positive side, the adapter does support a range of M.2 NVMe sizes (2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280), which offers flexibility. It’s compact and fits well alongside other components in a Pi setup. Installation is straightforward, and the unit is plug-and-play once connected. However, I ran into several issues that are hard to overlook. First, while it does technically support high-speed NVMe SSDs, the performance is throttled. The Pi 5’s PCIe interface doesn’t fully leverage NVMe’s speed potential, resulting in only marginal improvements over a good-quality USB SSD. This limitation somewhat defeats the purpose of using NVMe for performance gains. Additionally, the adapter tends to run hot even under moderate use, which led me to add extra cooling. Without it, performance drops further due to thermal throttling.Lastly, the physical build quality of the adapter could be better; the connectors feel delicate, and I worry about durability over time. For a setup intended for continuous use, I’d expect a sturdier design. In summary, while the Pimoroni NVMe Base for the Raspberry Pi 5 is functional, it falls short of maximizing the speed advantage that NVMe typically offers. It’s fine for extra storage & as a boot device. As a extra note the link cable was very fiddley to fit and took some time.

Cooler than a hat
I really like this product. A base is better than a hat! I chose this over a hat because it doesn’t obstruct the cooling fan. It is said that the pcie cable can be tricky but I didn’t have any issues

Great item ,great value for money .
Item can be a little fidly with cable as small ,but not difficult to setup.Works right out the box once connected to rasberry pi 5 ,Got a 4tb m.2 on for a portable media center using rasberry pi 5 lite and casa os installed , then dockers for jellyfin ,pi hole etc for holidays etc. Life saver when have kids who like different films. Be caerful!
The ribbon cable is very short and sits at a peculier angle. Mine broke trying to put it together. Unless your agile look at other products.
