INEXPENSIVE, DOES THE JOB
I own many Friedrich portables. The top button control panel crapped out within about a year or so. So, you have to use the remote for all functions. Then they started to die. This remote is INEXPENSIVE and WORKS WELL. The Friedrich ones are costly, if you could even get them. One note on programming: the Friedrich codes on their list didn't work. You then do a scroll through the codes to find one that does. The instructions end up saying (after some other things) to push a key multiple times till the unit turns off and then push another key to load the code. It lies. The remote runs through the codes by itself, so be ready to push that load key. And, if your top panel is dead and you don't have a remote to turn the unit on, you can't program this remote, unless the Friedrich (or other maker) codes work.

Remote is garbage
I bought two of these, for two separate units, since one of my original remotes wasn't working correctly anymore. The remote is supposed to work with a Commercial Cool window unit AC. I followed the very simple instructions included. The 3 codes provided for setup didn't work so I inputted the manual search. It connected to the AC but the only thing it did was change the unit setting from Farenheight to Celsius with no way to change it back. (There's no setting button for that on the remote, or instructions on what to do if there's an issue.) It would only power back on if I hit the timer button and wouldn't change any of the other settings.I called the phone number on the instruction sheet and, as usual, ended up speaking to someone in India that didn't have a clue how to help with the issue unless I could give them the name, birth weight, and zodiac sign of my firstborn child. Since my window unit isn't new, I no longer have the paperwork on it, and the person from India wanted information on the AC that isn't on the unit itself. I explained that to her and we went in circles with no resolution.Outcome: I now have a handwritten Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion chart just so I can manually set my AC temperature, no working remote, and I'm out the cost of two useless pieces of plastic.

Use the auto program procedure.
It works fine. Had to use the automatic programing. Great product. Great Price.

Stopped working right after the month return period ended.
It was easy to set up, but stopped working after about a month and too late to return. Not the battery, just stopped. No idea if this is a fluke or if they are all like this, but I am disappointed because it worked well in the beginning. I won't be risking finding out and will try a different brand.

Using With GE Smart AC Unit
I had trouble getting this to work with my new GE window unit. I hated the factory remote because it is a new "improved" super thin model without raised buttons, which means its worthless in the dark because of the lack of tactile feedback.Anyway, I went through all the GE codes and nothing worked. A Google search turned up some old information about it really being a rebranded Haier unit. Trids all the Haier codes ..... still nothing. So I tried the press "8" thing to program it. Got it to turn off the unit, pressed "1" to save it ...... then it did not work again.Gave up thinking I just wasted 10 bucks. The next day I told my son to try it. He got it to to work with the "8" method.Seems that, due to the delay off function of the "smart" unit, that I was going too fast between button pushes that by the time the unit actually turned off I had passed the correct code and saved the wrong one. He did it by turning the unit on vs the instructions that say turn unit on manually then search for what turns it off.Anyway, he tells me it works now ...... but you have to push the buttons real hard.

Easy to use
GE failed to enclose the remote with the air conditioner I bought. So I looked on amazon and bought this one. Set up in less than a minute and works like a dream. Great value and saves me the headache of dealing with GE for weeks due to their mistake.

Hit or miss
Update: It does work but you have to get the aim just right. It's quite annoying. You have to press and point a dozen times and hope you get the angle just right.I ordered one of these last summer. Didn’t work. Returned it, bought something else. That one isn’t working now. May need a battery.Crossed my fingers and took a chance on this one again. Works perfectly.Maybe you will get lucky, too

This is not a great remote it doesn't make anything work
Remote does not work and then when you try to get a refund they charge you nearly $6 instead of let you return it for free
