Q: The tiles says 8 cameras the product discription says 4 which is it?

It supports up to 8 cameras. You can tell by the model numbers they use, such as NV2108, NV1104, etc. The last number is usually the number of channels, thus the number of cameras it supports.

Q: What is the speed of the ethernet port on this dvr? i hoping it is gigabit ethernet.

This is an NVR not a DVR. The Ethernet Port goes to the router for local and remote access. You can use a Gigabit Ethernet Cable. Amcrest Team

I have all trendnet cameras and mine work fine with this unit. If your cameras support ONVIF they will work with this NVR. As quoted from their website, "Fully compatible with Amcrest IP cameras, and has limited compatibility with Foscam, Dahua, Arecont Vision, AXIS, Bosch, Brickcom, Canon, Honeywell, Panasonic, Pelco, Samsung, Sanyo, Sony, Vivotek, and all other ONVIF compatible IP Cameras."

Q: What is the max distance, camera to station, you can still get good reception?

I run cat6 cable (outdoor) for around 100ft, and I have not problem, I think that this device can support more distance like 200ft but I'm not really sure.
