3 3/4" BLACK & WHITE Roman Legion Plastic Chess Pieces - felted

I collect chess sets. when I saw this one I did not hesitate. it was a handsome set with great detail and the pieces have personality. it is plastic and not weighted but they have felt bottoms.. and move easily on the board. one thing I like in particular is the queen actually looks like a queen as opposed to the queens of some other chess sets. I also really like the knights. it arrived fairly soon and was well packaged. all in all a good experience, and when my brother saw the chess set he too wanted to get one for his own. I actually favor it now over a couple more expensive chess sets I own.

I have quite a few chess sets in my collection... but no Roman themed set until now. The pieces fit well on regulation boards... I have set mine up on both a green and white mouse-pad board and a wooden board... they look great on both. Pieces are easy to distinguish, so it is not hard to play a game... though I use mine to play over games from books. The final positions always look a bit dramatic due to the Roman figures. This is a nice set and the plastic is not the rubbery smelly type. Does not come with a board.

Delivery was fast. The chess pieces are beautiful and large size 3 3/4 inches (9.5 cm). Chess is made of fragile plastic. Package of chess was without protection from damage.

They look great! Play well on a standard sized board. Unlike some fancier chess sets, it’s easy to tell which piece is which. Some criticize that they are plastic, but being plastic they don’t break or damage your board if you drop one.

These pieces look great, and they are well sculpted. The queens are a likeness of the Venus de Milo, which is an inspired idea. The downside? They are plastic, essentially glorified army men. Because they are a bit larger than some chess pieces and are posed, they do seem to crowd the board a bit. Still, they are fun to use and please the eye.

Love my Roman chess set (bought Viking as well but sent it back) very clean looking and easy to ID pieces. A little more weight on the bottom would help but overall I am very pleased.

These are light weight plastic pieces. To give you an idea they are like the green Army men just black and slightly larger. The buyer, especially if they like the feel of a sturdy chess piece is better served by not pitching this item.

We have played with the pieces several times and put them away and got them out again. No chipping or damage. Holding up nicely. Love them.
