LOTS of great ideas for bringing home schooling into daily life
I borrowed this book from the library and it was so full of ideas that I decided I needed it for my reference shelf. Lots of great ideas broken down by subject which is why it makes for such a terrific reference book. Many of the ideas are simply, and require little if any tools or props which makes them easy to initiate and build upon if they are a success for you. I also like that many times web sites were provided in conjunction with many of the ideas so I could do further research or find downloads that were applicable. My child is 6 years hold, and many of the ideas in this book work to introduce a new concept such as subtraction --- I appreciate that so many people were willing to share their ideas that work!

Great
I'm a single dad with a 4 year old preparing to homeschooling becouse f$&# the indoctrination centers and all the dead beat parents who do nothing for their kids in my city. I will not allow my son to be around their aweful kids with no class or manners. If I trusted my city's parents and could respect them and their children I'd maybe consider doing public school but no way. I'll have my son at a high-school graduate level by the time he's 10 and we will have and live an adventurous life. So as long as I breath air I will not allow my son to be brainwashed and have his youth stolen from him by the government and strangers. Seek truth people. Load up on educational books and teach your kids well. Even if they attend the indoctrination centers you should still buy these books to learn and get ideas from. Write your own book!!

Good for homeschooling, and education in general
Linda Dobson is well known in homeschooling circles. She has written several books; she is invited to speak at homeschooling conferences; and she has been homeschooling her own children for years. Most of the books she has written are very targeted at the homeschooling market. The title of this book indicates the same trend, but the reality is this book is for any family who wants to help their children learn and understand more in their education. Her first chapter does focus homeschooling, as she talks about some key factors between public schools and homeschooling. She calls these the "school mind" and the "education mind." The "school mind" is more concerned about preserving the public school system than in educating the students. The "education mind" is focused on trying to help children learn. The rest of the book is a wonderful collection of ideas on how to help children learn, from reading, to math, to character building, to other facets of a children's education. This is a great resource for rainy days, for when a child is bored, or for when a student is struggling with a particular subject. If you are looking for ways to educate your children, this is a good book to have.

It's not all that often I give reviews on Amazon but I just had to comment on this amazing book. A wonderful resource for the homeschool parent or anybody with an avid interest in their child's learning. Full of unique and doable games, activities, crafts to aid in teaching your child. I could not put this down. Even once I read it, I have gone back time and again to re-read it to make sure I'm not forgetting about the many amazing ideas. Linda, thank you for making this book. It has been such a blessing to me as a teacher to my varied in ages children. I just had to tell you!!!

Fantastic for ANY Mum, child worker or just person that loves playing with kids!!
Fantastic book!! I recommend this book for anyone that has kids, is around kids or works with kids! And not just at school age either - there are so many fun games you can play here and adapt to any age, even preschool. And it's not just for HomeSchooling Mums either - these are great ideas that can help any mum give their child at school that little bit extra help while still having fun. Such a fun book, so many fun ideas that will have your child learning without even realising it and you'll be having fun too. A must have for every mum!!

Just okay
The activities weren't quite what I was expecting - I was hoping for a bit more substance rather than roll-dice-and-add-numbers kinds of things. Nothing you can't find online with a quick search. HOWEVER, I thought the non-activity info was actually quite helpful - some good organizational ideas and such that were nice to read.

I love this book
I just received this book a few days ago and I sat reading through some of the activities for a few hours last night, highlighting the ones I plan on using with my 5 year old son! I homeschool my kindergarten son and he's very energetic and typically balks at "traditional" teaching so I ordered this book on a hunt for some fresh ideas to use in our homeschool. A few of the ideas in this book are a little obvious, but creativity is not one of my personal gifts (lol) so i find this book extremely usefull. Not only are the ideas and activities great, but as a whole it is helping me to "think outside the box" with my son's education.
