The Socket PocketPak for Motorola is a mobile e-mail kit that allows you to use your handheld computer with your mobile phone for wireless e-mail and Internet access. This kit includes Socket's digital phone card, which connects a Pocket PC to a Motorola CDMA cell phone and allows the phone to function as a wireless modem. The PocketPak comes with software for America Online and Microsoft Network, allowing you to connect wirelessly to the Internet and download e-mail in one easy step, thus eliminating the hassle of running two separate programs. The PocketPak also wirelessly enables Microsoft Pocket Inbox, which is included on Windows-powered Pocket PCs. Socket's digital phone card is capable of transmitting and receiving data at up to 1 megabit per second (Mbps). The limitation in transfer speed is dependent on the wireless network--most CDMA networks currently operate at 14.4 Kbps, while most GSM networks currently operate at 9.6 Kbps. As the networks increase their data throughout, the digital phone card is capable of going as fast as the networks for now and the foreseeable future. Check with your service provider to make sure your cell phone is data capable and that data services are available in your area or are turned on for your account. Some carriers require you turn on data services at an additional cost. Other versions of the PocketPak are available for Sprint Touchpoint, Qualcomm, and Samsung phones.
