Sweep sucked me in and refused to let go
Morgan Rowlands is a normal, sixteen-year-old girl who is starting her junior year in high school. She lives with a younger sister and both of her parents in a small town, near the Hudson River in New York. She is a brain and not very popular but her best friend, Bree, is beautiful and runs with the popular crowd. Morgan's other good friend, Robbie, is also smart but since he has a bad case of acne on his face and wears glasses, he is not seen as handsome or popular.Everything is perfectly fine in Morgan's life, until Cal Blaire moves to Widow's Vale. He is described as breathtaking - with raggedy, brown-black hair that looked as if he hacked as it himself, a perfect nose, beautiful olive skin and riveting, ageless, gold-colored eyes. All the females think he is totally devine and even Morgan develops a crush on him but she knows that someone that gorgeous would never be a good match for her. Before Morgan is able to tell Bree that she has a crush on Cal, Bree admits to this crush first. Morgan tries to step aside but she has deep feelings for Cal and longs for him (yes, another insta-love book).Cal invites many people to join him in a witch circle. Some people think the idea is kooky but Morgan really gets into it. Cal narrows the group down and then they meet every Saturday to learn about the Wiccan religion. Morgan feels intense energy whenever they walk in the circle and Cal is focusing more on her as a result. Bree gets jealous and tries to get Morgan to leave the circle but suddenly, Cal chooses Morgan and Bree throws their friendship away.As Morgan and Cal get closer, the more power Morgan is able to harness. She discovers several secrets that completely change her life and the only person she really trusts is Cal. That could prove to be a big mistake.I really got into the first volume and I loved how Wiccan traditions were prominent in the story. I also found it very interesting that non-witches were getting involved in witch circles, magick and the Wiccan ways. I thought it brought a fresh perspective to the witch world.I found the characters to be realistic and believable but some scenes did cross the unbelievable line. I really did not care for Cal and thought that he was up to something right from the beginning. I didn't trust him and found his behavior to be odd. I don't know if he is trustworthy; I guess I'll have to find out in the next volume.I thought Morgan was likable and she didn't go crazy with the whining, pouting, complaining and swooning that many teenage characters seem to experience.I did like the diary entries at the beginning of the chapters in The Coven and Blood Witch. It was fun trying to figure out who wrote the entries and then use the information to provide more depth to the characters. The volume was well written and the story held my interest as I kept flipping the pages to find out what would happen to Morgan. I did buy all five volumes so I'm excited that I don't have to wait for the next book and that I can continue reading about Morgan's journey with Wicca and magick.I give Volume 1, five stars.

LOVED IT, but this isn't Wicca
I loved this book and the entire series so much that I've read them all multiple times, however the books totally misuse the term "Wicca".Cate Tiernan uses the terms "Wicca" and "Witchcraft" interchangeably and they're not at all the same thing.Wicca is a religion that originated just recently in the early 20th century as a revival of early Pagan and Witchcraft practices that had died out over the centuries. It generally involves the practice of Witchcraft, however it is a religion first and foremost and by definition does not have to include the practice.Witchcraft has existed under different names since practically the beginning of time or at least of recorded history. Unlike Wicca, Witchcraft is a practice, but not a religion. One can practice Witchcraft without subscribing to the whole religious construct of Wicca.Again, Wicca only emerged in the early 20th century, however Tiernan uses the term in these books in relation to the fictional Blood Witch lineage which goes back to the beginning of time. The Blood Witches in these books are Witches yes, but Wiccans, no.Some people might consider this a fine distinction, however having studied the subject academically it annoyed me a little. As opposed to alot of novels involving Wicca/Witchcraft, she did do a great job of describing it as it exists in the real world, not just creating a completely fictitious representation.Still, I LOVED these books and wish they would be adapted as a TV series or as movies.

It will suck you in
I've read the series before and it's always been my favorite. Recently I went to re-read it and couldn't find the first 3 books so here we are! This series will suck you in. It'll make you laugh, cry, rejoice, and all the things.

Obsessed
I found the third book of this series in a local thrift book store and was instantly obsessed with the cover art. I just had to buy the first. I have not yet read the book but what I can tell so far is that the print is very easy to read and even though it is a "bigger" book than I would normally read, I can already tell that I will fall in love with the characters. If you like this book, I would recommend The Secret Circle by L.J. Smith, the author of the Vampire Diaries. Sweep is almost identical but has different results.

Vol 1
I was intrigued by the books at my local bookstore but they never had the entire series so I came to Amazon and found what I was looking for and for way less. Originally at my bookstore they had this going for $8.99 for each book and they were the singles not the Volumes. So I thought this was a steal though these are paperback and the covers are no where near as cool, I decided that I would rather save the money and purchase the Volumes instead, while getting another series with the extra that I saved.Sweep Volume 1- I never knew when I was getting to the next book in the volume I just read straight through without bothering to notice. The very beginning just pulls you in and you just can't get enough and keep going. Its about Magic, Morgan and Cal and a few others. I don't want to ruin the hole thing for anyone but it is very good and keeps in base with their relationship and the story of Magic.
